13 years. Thousands of memories. One final hurdle.
First of all, I want to say a huge thank you to every single person who has supported Maui Festival over the last 13+ years.
For more than a decade, Maui has been something incredibly special to me — and I hope it has become something special to you too.
Over the years, we've created a place where people can come together, escape the everyday, enjoy incredible music and art, make new friends, create memories and simply have a bloody good time.
Now that the dust has settled on this year's festival, I've had to take a really hard look at where we are.
And the reality has hit home: without some help, this could be the end of Maui.
And I can't help but feel that would be a huge shame.
Not just for me, but for our community, the artists and performers who make Maui what it is, the suppliers and crew who bring it to life, and the wider arts and festival scene.
In the current environment, I believe we need these pockets of fun, creativity, connection and escapism more than ever. We need places that keep life entertaining, exciting and enjoyable.
So, what has happened?
Continuous historical debt.
The problem is that the financial impact of COVID has been carried forward year after year. For the last six years, I have personally carried that burden, hoping that each year's festival would eventually allow us to clear it.
We can break even but we’re paying owed money but we’re just rolling debt on.
And if we have a bad year…that just sets us back.
By rolling on a lump sum I’m having to delay paying different people each year which comes with new problems and continuous stress…
And the sole financial responsibility lies with me.
The amount I need to raise is £47,000.
But by selling off some personal assets I can raise £15,000.
By crowdfunding £32,000 that can get me to zero.
If we can stretch goal to £47,000 then I can avoid having to sell off personal assets.
On the scale of the event, this isn't an enormous number.
But I've reached the point emotionally, mentally and financially where I simply can't carry it any longer.
Continuing to do so puts the future of the business — and my own personal financial security — at serious risk.
I've put an enormous amount of myself into Maui over the years, and I don't regret that for a second.
But I now need to ask the people who love Maui to help me carry this one.

Over the last 13 years, at least 600 people each year have enjoyed Maui on a free guest pass, with many of you joining us year after year.
We've always loved being able to welcome friends, artists, performers, crew and members of our wider community into Maui without asking for anything in return.
But now we're asking for a little help. If you've been lucky enough to experience Maui for free — perhaps once, perhaps many times — please consider what those weekends have been worth to you and make a donation.

Where will the £32,000 (£47,000 stretch goal) go?
The outstanding £47,000 is roughly split:
50% – performers and artists
50% – suppliers and festival fees
Our target isn't about making a profit.
If we don't reach the target then it will still be a huge help to paying everyone, we will pay a percentage to every person owed and look at alternative ways to raise the capital to achieve the goal - I want you to know that I am committed to making this happen - but I cannot do it without you.
If we reach £47,000 by crowdfunding or a mixture of crowdfunding and me selling personal assets, we simply bring Maui back to zero.
Nothing owed.
Nothing made.
Just a clean slate.
We’ve been operating with our heads above the water for years, turning over a small profit, chipping away at this rolling number, we just simply need a reset to wipe the slate clean and for the first time in 6 years give me space to breathe.
Give Maui a chance to come back
Reaching this target would allow us to take a proper fallow year — something that would give us the breathing space we desperately need physically, emotionally and financially.
It would mean we could step away on good terms rather than being forced to disappear.
And, most importantly, it would give us the opportunity to come back in 2028 with the energy, creativity and enthusiasm to put on one hell of a Maui.
That's the future I want to fight for.
Why I'm asking you
Maui has never been just about me.
It's the people who come through the gates.
It's the artists who perform.
It's the crew who work behind the scenes.
It's the suppliers who make the impossible possible.
It's the friendships, the dancing, the laughter, the ridiculous moments and the memories that stay with us long after the tents have come down.
It's the community we've built together over 13 years.
So if Maui has ever given you a great weekend, a favourite memory, a new friendship, a moment of escape, or simply a bloody good dance — please consider giving something back.
