A new album of choral music by composer Matthew Coleridge, with The Choir of Royal Holloway, Southern Sinfonia and cellist Jamal Aliyev.
In July 2022, composer Matthew Coleridge will record a new album of his choral music, with one of the UK's finest choirs - The Choir of Royal Holloway, directed by Rupert Gough.
We'll spend two days recording in the gorgeous acoustics of Christchurch Priory in Dorset, working with renowned chamber orchestra Southern Sinfonia, organist Simon Earl and two internationally acclaimed soloists - cellist Jamal Aliyev and soprano Karin Dahlberg.
The finished album will be released internationally by Convivium Records, a leading independent classical record label.

"It's vibrant, joyful music... I wrote a lot of it during lockdown, when the idea of a choir ever singing it seemed really quite remote. But these really uplifting melodies kept appearing and dancing around in my head, so I'm thrilled to be making this new recording." Matthew Coleridge
Matthew's music was hailed by the late Sir Neville Marriner as "a valuable addition to 21st century choral repertoire". The new album will feature 60 minutes of his achingly beautiful compositions, including:
Matthew's "mesmerising" choral music has been steadily growing in popularity for many years, fuelled largely by the enthusiasm of singers around the country who have fallen in love with his music!
This exciting new recording, by an internationally acclaimed choir and with the expert backing of a specialist record label, will help to thrust his music into the mainstream, establishing his works as a vital part of the choral repertoire, and opening doors to radio and press coverage.
The total budget for this recording project is £25,600.
£15,000 of this will cover the fees of the musicians involved: 24 singers, 16 orchestral players, two soloists, an organist and a conductor.
£4,000 will be spent on record production and manufacturing, working with an award-winning producer and a sound engineer who has recorded hundreds of choral and orchestral albums for labels including Convivium, Warner Classics, Naxos and Hyperion.
£2,000 will go towards filming and photography of the recording sessions, to produce high definition promotional footage for the album.
£1,200 is for two-days' hire of Christchurch Priory.
£3,400 will cover the cost of transport and accommodation for the choir, admin, music printing, and a 5% contingency.
