To raise funds to support the release of my debut album - CD production, Music Videos, Album Artwork and potentially PR*
Hi! My name is Matt and I am a saxophonist/composer from Scotland :)
I've 
been playing since the age of 11 and now I'm very excited to be recording my debut album in March 2020 at Quietmoney Studios. I was grateful to recently receive a Peter Whittingham Jazz Award of £2500 which covers the costs of Recording/Mixing and Mastering. We hope to release the album around Autumn 2020 (tbc) but this could vary.
How your money will be spent
The cost of releasing an album is expensive and the award can only cover the recording aspect.

***If the target is exceeded money will go towards the cost of hiring a PR agent ( £2000-£3000) and travel expenses for touring.
The music I write reflects my love for both folk and jazz and is described by The Scotsman as ‘combining muscular drive with a richly lyrical and melodic sense... has created an exciting Scottish style of his own.' Some early examples of my music are available on Spotify, Youtube etc..
The band features 3 of my best friends and some of the most talented musicians that I know - Ali Watson (double bass), Fergus McCreadie (piano) and Tom Potter (drums). We all met in our teens through the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and Ali I met even earlier through the East Dunbartonshire Schools Jazz Orchestra.
I could talk for a very long time about how I love these musicians, individually all of these guys are incredibly special and it won't be long before they are all far too big time to be playing with me haha! But for now I feel very privileged to have grown up playing and learning form them and continuing to do so today!

Marked as ‘One to watch in 2019’ by Jazzwise magazine, 20 year old saxophonist and composer Matt Carmichael is one of Scotland’s most exciting young talents.
He regularly performs under his own name at the likes of Ronnie Scott’s, Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Celtic Connections and has had airplay on BBC Radio Scotland, Jazz FM and BBC Radio 3.
Matt's own tunes combine his love for Jazz and folk, described as 'music that’s beautifully sculpted and gorgeously melodic with an underlying sense of rhythmical power.' His quartet features the award winning Fergus McCreadie (piano), Ali Watson (Bass) and Tom Potter (Drums). They will record and release their debut album in 2020 thanks to the Peter Whittingham Development Award.
Some bands/musicians Matt has collaborated with include the Mark Hendry Orchestra, corto.alto, World Jazz Orchestra, Fat-Suit, The Blue Arrow Big Band, Tom McGuire and the Brassholes, Luca Manning, Jonny Mansfield, Jesse Dockx…
Other performing highlights include gigs in Belgium, Croatia, Serbia and at Newport Jazz Festival USA, BBC Proms, Love Supreme Jazz Festival.
