Maslow's Community

RCN SC051961, Glasgow

Maslow's Community is a charity based in Govan, comprised of a community shop and a community hub. From our community shop we run a voucher service, through which asylum seekers, refugees, and anyone in the community experiencing financial hardship can sign up for a voucher and access clothes, shoes, toys and household goods from our shop. We also provide free pre-paid SIM cards, and hold free pop-up shops in six hotels across Scotland housing asylum seekers, to ensure that everyone who needs to can access essential items with dignity. From our new Community Hub we run free classes, workshops and support sessions daily. These include: English, computer, arts and crafts, music, and active classes, as well as CV building workshops, one-to-one support with forms and applications, and asylum seeker housing advice. The Hub is there for anyone looking to learn a new skill, meet new people, find support and advice, or just have a warm drink and someone to chat to.

Maslow's Needs Your Help!

Maslow's urgently needs funding to cover travel costs for our service users to come to our classes!

Maslow's Community Hub opened in January 2023, and we have been delighted and amazed at the number of people who have come to our free classes, internet cafe and drop-in advice sessions.

Our Hub is designed to be a warm, welcoming, and fun space for people of all ages and backgrounds to come and learn new skills, and make new friends. We run free classes every day, including: English, Computer, Arts and Crafts, Crochet and Knitting, Ukelele, Self-Defense for Women, CV writing workshops, Housing advice workshops, a film making course, internet cafe and one-to-one support sessions with everything from setting up an email address to applying for universal credit.

Why donate?

It is vital that we are able to cover travel costs for people to get to our classes. We support people in our local community, but our classes are also key for people outside of Govan; particularly for asylum seekers being housed in hotels in Greenock, Paisley, Falkirk, and East Kilbride. Without these travel expenses, over 60% of the regular students at our classes will not be able to attend. This not only means that they will miss out on opportunities to learn new skills, but also essential time to socialise and integrate in to new communities.

Why now?

With the current rates of attendance, we will soon run out of funding to pay travel costs. We are hopeful that we will receive a fresh grant in the coming months to sustain these costs, but in the mean time we need your help to keep providing our services. Please donate today.
