Her video “The Bend in the River” shows her creative process, including how she sets up her painting, plans her composition, and adapts as the work evolves — adjusting her vision, embracing mistakes, and working through the ebb and flow of creation . Mary is not only an acclaimed artist — she is also a competitive Hansa Liberty sailor, giving her a deep personal connection to the inclusive spirit of our class. She understands exactly what international competition means to disabled sailors: independence, confidence, community, and the chance to race on equal terms.

Sailors from the UK have just returned from the Hansa European Championships in Barcelona as winners of team trophy, with several sailors finishing with podium positions.

For some just overcoming many barriers to get there is an achievement.  The additional costs and logistics required to overcome the challenges of disability can be prohibitive for many.

International competition is important because it is aspirational and inspires other people with life inhibiting challenges to become more active and fulfilled. Sailing in itself is completely inclusive and enjoyable but it's important to provide pathways to engage people to strive for more and to help them to achieve success.  For some that is simply getting there and being part of a supportive community.  We're also creating the athletes for the future.  The Hansa 303 is a World Sailing para class boat and is raced in inclusive events alongside the Olympic classes.

 Your support will help fund:

  • Travel and logistics for disabled sailors competing internationally
  • Transport of Hansa boats to Lake Geneva (May 2027)
  • Coaching, safety cover, and volunteer support
  • The opportunity for British sailors to compete on the world stage

Mary’s generosity reflects the heart of Hansa sailing — creativity, determination, and the belief that everyone should have the freedom to experience the water.
