To get Martyn Hurt elected as the Green Party Lancashire County Councillor for the Burnley Central West Division

by Martyn Hurt in Burnley, Lancashire, United Kingdom

I urgently need your help to defend our Green County Council seat on Lancashire County Council this May.

I am proud to have been selected as the Green Party Candidate for the Burnley Central West Division, which covers Trinity, Whittlefield with Ightenhill and half of Gannow wards, but I'm not going to lie - it isn't going to be easy.

Martyn Hurt seated in a wheelchair with green pushrims on the wheels. He is wearing a dark brown leather jacket over a dark sweater, beige pants, and black gloves with white text on them. The man has glasses and a calm, content expression on his face. Behind him is a minimalist background featuring wooden tiered steps with a light natural finish. The setting appears modern and well-lit, suggesting an indoor location with a clean and contemporary design.

As a disabled candidate, I can't knock on doors or deliver leaflets myself, which puts me at a huge disadvantage compared to the other candidates, who are also funded and supported by large Party election teams, funded by donations from fossil fuel companies, private healthcare companies and more, while the Green Party is funded by a small number of ethical supporters, and the local Green Party is just a small group of people with limited resources.

As a Burnley Borough Councillor for the past 4 years, I have worked tirelessly to represent my ward.

I have the highest number of flytipping reports of anyone in the Borough, accounting for around 25% of all reports at the last time of checking, running into the thousands.

Martyn wearing glasses and a dark jacket stands in the foreground, looking directly at the camera with a serious expression. Behind him, there is a large pile of debris, including wood, cardboard, and other construction materials, scattered across a grassy area. The setting is outdoors, with brick row houses on the left, a few detached homes in the distance, and hills visible under a cloudy sky. The scene conveys a sense of urban decay or the aftermath of demolition or waste accumulation.

It doesn't stop there though, as I am constantly getting roads and pavements fixed and pushing for improvements to them for pedestrians, cyclists, the disabled and drivers, and I have helped residents to get thousands of pounds of incorrect Council Tax debt removed, as well as making Burnley a safer place to live.

A rear view of a person in a wheelchair with bright green wheels navigating through a narrow metal gate along a pathway. The wheelchair has an attachment at the back, possibly a small motorized device. The individual is wearing a brown and green jacket with a hood. The pathway is bordered by a tall wooden fence on the left and dense green hedges on the right. The setting appears to be outdoors during early morning or late afternoon, with soft sunlight visible in the distance. The scene highlights accessibility challenges in navigating tight spaces

Within the council itself, I have been responsible for getting a Disabled Member Substitute Scheme implemented, leading to a general scheme for all members.

I have pushed at every level for accessibility changes, such as and accessible Chamber, the right for someone who cannot speak for themselves or needs an interpreter to have those people speak or translate for them in council meetings and more - so that anyone can be confident that if they become a Councillor, the barriers they may have faced in the past have now been removed.

To have a chance of winning this election, I need to pay for deliveries to the hardest to reach areas, and each leaflet will cost around £600 for delivery. Thankfully, delivery costs for me do not count towards the expense limit.

We have the money for the leaflets, but I desperately need your help to get at least 3 leaflets delivered to every home in the division. Anything above the target of £1800 will mean that I can reach even more residents.

Every pound donated will go towards my campaign. Without it, the Tories are likely to win the seat.

Please consider donating, and help keep the Tories out.
