Marsden CC CrowdFunder 2022

About us;

Marsden Cricket Club is a popular community club with a family friendly atmosphere. Having been formed in 1925, our club was launched for local miners to enjoy their weekly cricket fix after a long week 'down the pits'. Our club was previously situated next to the iconic Souter Lighthouse before relocating to our current home- The Jack Clark Park- where it has remained to this day.

The cricket club is a member of the Durham & North East Cricket League, with four adult teams playing in the divisions of this competition. We have a thriving junior section with All Stars and Dynamos cricket being played at the club as well as U9, U11 & U18 teams playing in the Durham Junior Cricket League, and an U19 team who play in a knockout tournament.

Marsden Cricket Club in the Community;

Marsden Cricket Club has strong links to its local community, supporting local primary schools through delivering specialist sessions which engage, and provide opportunities for young children to play cricket. Prior to Covid-19 we also supported a number of local projects including; Cubs, Beavers & bereavement groups. These links have been the basis of our club structure for a number of years, and have helped to grow our junior structure into what it is today.

Marsden Cricket Club also provides an inclusive environment for all of its members, and individuals throughout the local community. We have a diverse range of members from various abilities, experiences and backgrounds.

In recent years, we have played host a local Bangladeshi tape ball cricket team, who have used our ground throughout the summer months. We have also been thrilled to have played host to a number of local Indian cricket teams, and provide their players with the ability to use our facilities.

Towards the future running of our club, our target is to continue to provide these opportunities across the local community. Our goal is to also provide a greater number of these opportunities to a broader range of individuals, with the money raised from this CrowdFunder enhancing our ability to do so.

What we are looking to fund;

Across the past 2 years, Marsden Cricket Club has faced significant financial difficulty due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic. These financial difficulties have arose due to our clubhouse and bar being unable to open as normal due to restrictions. Furthermore due to these restrictions, and further social distancing measures, we have been unable to run fundraising events and activities to support the financial standpoint of the cricket club.

In recent months, we have also been hit significantly hard by Storm Arwen, with our ground facing catastrophic damage. This has included; the destruction of perimeter fencing and safety netting; damage to score boxes, garage roofing and decking; and repairs to our covers. Due to these repairs being needed, this has come with a major financial burden for the cricket club.

The funds raised from this project will help support the running of our cricket club for years to come, helping the cricket club to recover from the past 2 years of financial difficulty and insecurity, and the destruction caused by Storm Arwen. It will also help to support the number of junior team that represent our cricket club at various ages, helping us to continue to grow our links and services to the local community and being at the centre of junior cricket across South Tyneside.

Our Target;

Our target is to raise £10,000 in donations, with this being matched by Sport England. Every penny that we raise will be spent on our cricket club, helping us to recover from the past 2 years of financial difficulty and supporting the development of young cricketers across South Tyneside. We also have aims to repair, improve and develop the physical infrastructure of our ground, ensuring it returns to its former state of glory.

Your donation, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated and our heartfelt thanks go to you as we work towards hitting our target.

We need a minimum of 100 pledges of support so any amount- however small or large will be massively appreciated.
