There is a team of members of the Markinch and Thornton Parish Church community who are working together to improve the facilities in the church hall in Markinch to ensure that it continues to be a hub of the local community and can continue to support the many community and church based groups who use it. This team started their project by updating and improving the outdoor space in the hall garden, which is almost completed. We aim, ultimately, to ensure that the church hall remains an accessible and welcoming space with facilities that fulfil the needs of all users who access the hall. There are plans to upgrade the toilet facilities and install a new kitchen in addition to a number of smaller projects including redecoration and the completion of our quiet room, which will be available to anyone using the hall, especially if they have special needs and might need a breakout space. The rear fire door is being replaced this month and we have been working with local companies to supply the resources to achieve some of our goals for free in partnership with us.
Unfortunately, we have experienced some vandalism recently, which has resulted in the replacement of the main hall fire door needing to be replaced urgently, as it was damaged beyond repair and must be replaced. This has impacted on the remainder of the project as we now need to find the funds to complete this work as soon as possible to keep the hall accessible to everyone as this is the main disabled access to the building.
