Aim: Help us build shared understanding to minimise wildlife disturbance & support coexistence across UK marine, coastal & estuarine habitats.

1749768373_logo_of_the_coastal_alliance.pngWe are the newly founded Coastal, Marine & Estuarine Habitat and Wildlife Alliance CIC – a Community Interest Company dedicated to supporting wildlife and habitats along the entire UK coastline. From the Scottish isles and Shetland, through the estuaries of East Anglia and the Humber, to the Welsh coast and Cornish headlands, our work spans the breadth of the nation, embracing all marine, coastal, and estuarine species—from seals, seabirds, and cetaceans to intertidal invertebrates and seagrass meadows.

Our mission is to foster coexistence between people and wildlife by raising awareness of how our actions affect these precious environments.

Coastal, Marine & Estuarine Habitat and Wildlife Alliance CIC exists to support and protect the rich biodiversity and habitats within the UK’s coastal, marine, and estuarine environments. By fostering collaboration, education, and meaningful engagement, we ensure that efforts to safeguard these ecosystems are accessible, inclusive, and effective.

As the governing CIC for the engage, explain, and educate remit of Operation Seabird, we work to ensure individuals, businesses, and communities understand their role in responsible environmental practices—encouraging thriving ecosystems while supporting economic growth, sustainable tourism, and healthy lifestyles.

Commitment to Coastal, Marine & Estuarine Environments

Each of these environments plays a vital role in ecological health, local economies, and community wellbeing:

  • Coastal environments provide critical habitats for shorebirds, nesting seabirds, and estuarine wildlife, while also supporting businesses, tourism, and recreational activities. Coastal areas are essential spaces for leisure, mental wellbeing, and economic prosperity. The CIC encourages responsible coastal stewardship to ensure that access to these environments remains balanced and beneficial for both wildlife and people.1750974703_dolphins_though_circle_design.jpg
  • Marine ecosystems contribute to broader ocean health while providing opportunities for maritime industries, sustainable fishing, and water-based recreation. By promoting responsible tourism and recreational practices, the CIC ensures that businesses and visitors alike can enjoy marine environments while minimising disturbance to wildlife and safeguarding long-term economic sustainability.
  • Estuarine habitats serve as critical transition zones where freshwater meets saltwater, creating highly productive ecosystems that support biodiversity, livelihoods, and cultural heritage. Estuaries offer unique opportunities for responsible eco-tourism, education, and regenerative environmental practices that benefit both nature and local economies. The CIC prioritises the protection of estuarine environments, ensuring that their ecological and economic roles are fully recognised.

Public Benefit, Healthy Lifestyles, and Economic Growth

Coastal, Marine & Estuarine Habitat and Wildlife Alliance CIC plays a vital role in integrating environmental protection with economic opportunity, leisure, and public wellbeing. Through education and engagement, the CIC promotes:

  • Sustainable tourism that respects natural habitats while benefiting local businesses
  • Healthy lifestyles through outdoor recreation that connects individuals with nature in ways that protect wildlife
  • Place-based economic growth by aligning local industries with environmental responsibility, ensuring businesses can thrive in harmony with coastal, marine, and estuarine environments
  • Social well-being and cultural heritage by fostering a collective understanding of our role as custodians of these shared spaces

By embedding responsible business practices into conservation strategies, the CIC ensures that tourism, leisure, and economic growth contribute positively to thriving wildlife and ecosystems rather than causing harm or depletion.

Strategic Alliances and Partnerships

The CIC recognises that the health of coastal, marine, and estuarine environments is intrinsically linked to responsible land management and economic sustainability. As such, we collaborate with:

  • Land custodians managing landscapes surrounding estuaries and the coastline to ensure integrated stewardship
  • UK place-based charities, community groups, and social networks to amplify education, engagement, and economic opportunities
  • Eco-tourism enterprises and businesses to ensure that conservation efforts enhance—not hinder—economic prosperity
  • Local governance and enforcement bodies to create scalable and sustainable environmental management strategies

1749768113_op-seabird-cmyk@2x.png  Through Operation Seabird, we work alongside partners, local custodians, and charities to reduce disturbance and promote understanding while celebrating the magnificent biodiversity of our shared spaces.  Our CIC proudly provides governance for Operation Seabird’s education and engagement initiatives and is currently developing the Operation Seabird website— a dynamic digital hub dedicated to outreach, learning, and collaborative storytelling.

This fundraising campaign will help us:

  • Deliver educational outreach and public engagement: Designing and implementing programmes and materials that encourage respectful wildlife encounters.
  • Develop eco-friendly, recycled merchandise: Establishing a sustainable revenue stream to secure the CIC’s long-term future while reinforcing our commitment to environmental responsibility.
  • Strengthen essential partnerships: Working collaboratively on local, regional, and national levels with businesses, community groups, charities, and voluntary organisations to share resources and promote sustainable practices.
  • 1749767961_puffin.pngCreate inclusive, creative digital content: Connecting communities with the species and habitats that define our shores through compelling storytelling.

We are profoundly grateful for each donation—every pound is a ripple that extends far beyond its immediate impact, much like a pebble cast into water creates waves of positive change. Your support will be used responsibly across these diverse aims, ensuring that together we build a future where both our natural environment and coastal communities thrive in balance.
