This September we're running the Great British Beach Clean from 18th–25th September 2020.

Like many events, this year the Great British Beach Clean looks a little different. Rather than encouraging volunteers to find a beach clean happening near them, we're calling on individuals to adopt a 100m stretch of beach and organise their own beach cleans, with smaller groups of friends, family and ‘bubbles’, in line with government guidance.

•   At last year’s Great British Beach Clean over 500 litter items were collected per 100m of beach, with nearly 11,000 volunteers taking part

Those not able to get to the beach can take part in our new Source to Sea Litter Quest and try to spot (and pick up!) common beach litter items in their local area. Litter across the country, whether inland or on the coast, has an impact on ocean pollution. The data collected this year will be vital to pushing for a ‘green recovery’ from coronavirus.

  • 80% of litter on the UK’s beaches comes from inland, travelling from our parks, rivers and streets
