Make a donation in our fundraising campaign to raise at least another £3,000 to provide copies of You Are a Champion to young people through their schools and youth organisations. Because of the generosity of our customers, we’ve already raised £1,000 at the Bookshop.
Newham Bookshop – along with a small number of selected independent bookshops across the UK – is working in partnership with Marcus’s publishers Pan Macmillan. They will provide free books to match the ones we buy using your donations. When we meet the target of £3,000, we will be able to give 600 copies to local young people.
Vivian Archer, manager of Newham Bookshop said: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of people who have donated over £1,000 to get his book to local children. One person who bid for a signed copy said he will donate that to a child who could be inspired to go onto great things. Thank you Marcus.”
Belinda Ioni Rasmussen, managing director of Macmillan Children’s Books, said: “Marcus is an inspirational young man and his book speaks directly to children and young people, reinforcing the message that you can be whatever and whoever you want to be, regardless of your background. It is wonderful to see how our industry has pulled together to take positive action to support Marcus Rashford and his message of hope, and we are delighted to be adding support to the campaigns that have been launched.”
Newham is the second-poorest London Borough, with 50% of children living in poverty, according to the Centre for Research in Social Policy, Loughborough University (2018/19 figures).
