What do we do?

The Bus Shelter MK provides a temporary home and one to one support to people who would otherwise be forced to sleep on the streets.  We work to remove the barriers to resolving homelessness and provide a secure base for people to rebuild their lives.  This may be accessing bank accounts or applying for ID, assistance with finding employment and/or applying for benefits and support to access health services. When they are ready, we help to find a safe, affordable long term home and ensure the basics are in place so that the former homeless person has the best possible chance to get their lives back on track.

Managing Money

One of the key reasons for homelessness is, understandably, that people have fallen into poverty or debt or have been unable to manage their finances.  The intention of this Managing Money project is to develop easily understood materials and provide training for our guests to provide important financial skills.  This will cover things like resolving debt and how to put together and manage a budget, understanding benefit entitlements and explaining the value of saving. The aim will be to help people to be financially robust in their recovery from homelessness, and even once this initial project has been completed the research and materials will be available for future guests.
