Aim

To make indoor swimming at Settle Pool more environmentally friendly, and save money on utility bills.

Who are we?

Settle Are1651682038_1651682039773.jpega Swimming pool provides indoor swimming facilities, and will soon have a new dry side room for health and wellbeing activities.  We provide swimming lessons for adults and children, host school swimming, a swimming club and a group for disabled swimmers.

Community impact

We are currently building a new mult1651682185_1651682186747.jpegi-use area which will be used for dryside fitness and wellbeing activities, and will be hirable for local community  organisations. We serve a rural community in North Yorkshire, there is no similar facility within 13 miles. The pool has been community run since it was first built by public efforts in 1974. This photo was taken when it first opened.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are repairi1651609291_1651609291172.jpegng the main pool roof after damage by high winds during Storm Arwen in November 2021. This is the ideal opportunity to install solar panels which will create a sustainable energy source for the pool, and offset our energy costs. We also want to install new pumps for the water circulation system, and other items of water filtration equipment, all of which will make our operations more energy efficient. The picture shows the pool as it is now, with the old roof removed ready for re-roofing. Truly living up to its name as the pool with a view!

How our project will be United by Birmingham 2022

Swimming helps improve health and fitness, we hope people will be inspired to take up swimming as a result of watching the Birmingham1651682534_1651682536027.jpeg Commonwealth games in summer 2022. The games finish in August and we will be re-opening our pool with a  new roof in early September, an ideal follow on. Being able to add solar panels to the roof will help alot with our long term financial stabilty, particulary as many pools around the country are finding life hard due to rising utility costs.

How we will spend the money

We will purchase and install 75 solar panels on the new pool roof, which is currently being installed, the photo below shows the new roof sections as they arrived on site. We will purchase and install new pool water circulation and water filtration equipment.
