Aim

We have a special opportunity to make history and elect the first Green MP for Bristol. Every donation you make will be doubled!

*** Your donation will be DOUBLED! ***

We're launching this crowdfunder because our campaign has secured match-funding for any donations up to £20,000. This means if we hit our target before the end of the crowdfunder our campaign to make history by electing Bristol's first Green MP will receive £40,000 -- which is 40% of our total fundraising target!

Why we need more Green MPs

13 years of consecutive Conservative Governments have ground this country’s ambition down. We look at our recent political history and we see the same, worn out story again and again of centrism, of neoliberalism, and of a gradual slide to the right.

Neither Tories nor Labour have a vision for the country, or a positive narrative of aspirational political change and a genuine hope for the future.

But the Greens are different. Since our beginning, we have always been different. We are the party of bold visions, of change. We are the party that sees a better future and has the policies to get us there.

With the next election set to bring in the most right-wing Labour government this country has ever seen, having Green MPs in parliament with the conviction to stand up for what is right, and to push for the policies we need, is crucial.

Carla Denyer for Bristol Central MP

Carla is co-leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, elected along with Adrian Ramsay in October 2021.

She is also the Green Party’s MP candidate for Bristol Central. In the 2019 General Election she came second, nearly doubling the Greens’ previous vote share and securing the highest number of votes that the Green Party has ever received in a General Election outside of Brighton Pavilion (Caroline Lucas’ seat).

Carla has been a Bristol City Councillor since 2015, forming a critical part of the largest Green councillor group in the UK, which saw unprecedented success at the May local elections in 2021.

In 2018 she proposed the first Climate Emergency declaration in Europe, committing Bristol to go carbon neutral by 2030. 74% of UK councils, the UK Parliament and Scottish and Welsh governments have since followed her lead.

Before entering politics, Carla worked as an engineer in the renewable energy industry, specialising in offshore and onshore wind energy.

We know we can win

We have a really special chance here at the next general election. In Bristol Central there’s no chance of electing a Conservative or Lib Dem MP, but Carla Denyer can win. We know this because:

  • The boundary changes have automatically halved Labour's lead in the constituency
  • We won 12 out of the 14 councillor seats in this constituency at the local elections, getting twice as many votes as Labour
  • Greens came first in the last two by-elections in the city and the momentum is on our side
  • At the last general election, the Conservatives didn’t even come close, and the Lib Dems have decided to focus elsewhere this time around
  • More and more Labour voters are saying that this time they're going to vote for Carla. Lots of them are even joining this campaign!

Whatever happens across the rest of the country, in Bristol Central the next MP will either be the strong and independent Carla Denyer, or a Labour MP who has to agree with whatever Keir Starmer says.

Your donations will help us win

In total, we need to raise £100,000 to be able to deliver our campaign plan. If we reach our target with this crowdfunder, because it's match-funded, we will receive £40,000 -- or 40% of that target!

We need funds to pay for campaign staff, to produce materials and activist resources. The money will go towards videos and social media advertising and the many expenses involved in delivering a campaign of this scale. This includes training, equipment, deposits, outdoor advertising, websites and so on.

The Green Party is reliant on normal people like you to support our campaigns. Unlike the old parties, we don't rely on wealthy investors or vested interests with deep pockets – we are a grassroots movement, so when we succeed, it's because people like you have joined our cause.

With your support, we make history together!

Thank you!

P.S. Because we're a political party

  • We're required to run electoral register checks from people making donations above £500, and if you donate over £1,500 during a year, we are required to let the Electoral Commission know, who will make this available on their website. All donations go to general campaigning funds.
