One year old Polo came to us with terrible stomach problems. The poor boy was very unwell with little energy. Investigations showed he was found to have a parasite. This has all be treated and is now cleared up.
Once recovered, Polo started to enjoy his walks and indeed, life in general. Unfortunately a previously untreated, broken leg (Polo had been knocked down by a car) has started to catch up with this poor boy now that he is more active.
Because his leg was left untreated it is now going to require specialist surgery and it will need to have a plate inserted - estimated cost £4000. Polo going to vets for initial consultation 17th April 2024.
Polo is a fantastic dog who loves people and cuddles. He has had an awful start to his young life and was doing so well and was so happy bouncing around and ready for a new home when his leg let him down.
As a Branch, we are paying for Polo to be treated so that he has the best chance in life. Like any other animal in this position, he deserves it.
Our appeal is to raise money which will enable the Branch to continue to treat animals like Polo. Polo is going to be our poster boy to represent the animals in the care of the RSPCA who need that extra amount of care and attention.
UPDATE On the 17th April, Polo left all that is familiar to him to go for specialist treatment. He doesn’t know it, but his life is about to change for the better!
UPDATE Good boy Polo is now recovering from his big operation on a cosy donated duvet. Well done Polo. Now the recovery start
UPDATE 7th May
Polo is continuing to do well in his recovery. He is now putting his foot down when walking. He has had his bandage removed and the vet is very pleased with how he is doing.
He has had a session with the physiotherapist who massaged his leg and used a laser which apparently speeds up recovery by strengthening the muscles.
He can now start taking short walks which can be increased each week.
He is due back to the vets in 6 weeks when further x rays will be taken to ensure all is well.
