Our fifth issue of Paranting Magazine will be dedicated to LGBTQ+ parents and we'll be publishing it in June 2022.
"We're dedicating the fifth issue of Paranting Magazine to LGBTQ+ parents everywhere; the theme throughout the whole magazine is Pride.
We're launching this Crowdfunder to cover the costs of assembling an all-star team of brilliant writers, photographers, designers, printers, and illustrators - and ALL from LGBTQ+ backgrounds.
We will pay each person who does freelance work for this magazine a National Union of Journalist average freelance fee and pledge to do this by 1st July 2022.
We will distribute this magazine and host it on news stands, getting underrepresented parental voices in front of a wider audience.
In short, we will make a real different with this magazine. Telling stories beyond the news corp headlines and going back to the roots of what makes a parent no matter their gender or sexual orientation.
What is Paranting Magazine?
Paranting Magazine was established in April 2021 by journalist Sophia Waterfield. It is a glossy lifestyle magazine for parents giving voices to underrepresented parents in the UK and beyond.
We've previously created a dedicated magazine issue to mark Black History Month, dedicated to celebrating and lifting up Black parents and families. We're committed to being as inclusive as possible in our pages and past issues, and we're always working to improve.
What is Paranting's mission?
Paranting is to caters to underserved parents who struggle to resonate with the current roster of glossy lifestyle magazines.
No more unaffordable products. No more London-centric mags. And no more out-of-touch articles.
Paranting magazine ensures that LGBTQ+ parents are recognised as caregivers. We give a platform to working-class parents and owners of small businesses. We prioritise space for Black parents and Parents of colour. We treat disabled parents with the respect they deserve.
Paranting is committed to sustainability and protecting the environment as well as pay equal salaries regardless of gender, ethnicity and disability.
In terms of rates, we pay the average fees for writers, editors etc. as laid out by the National Union of Journalists (NUJ).
We follow reporting guidelines from GLAAD, Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, Beat and others.
