The Cause
MAFIA is a fast paced, ensemble comedy, conveyed in real time, written by Tom Ward-Thomas, directed by Stephen Gallagher and produced by Claudia Kaye, that tells the story of an alcohol fuelled dinner party game that spirals out of control.
Cynthia is celebrating her 66th birthday with her loving partner Mac and is delighted that her three children have all come home with their boyfriends and girlfriends to enjoy a home cooked meal and lots of wine. And what better way to follow dinner than with a game of scrutiny, lies and murder, otherwise known as Mafia.
But each character is hiding a secret but it’s not that they’re the killer. The game quickly spirals and uncomfortable truths are exposed that could change the family dynamic forever.
This is a proof of concept short, shooting in November 2023, exploring sexual fluidity, generational divides, intolerance, and family conflicts and we intend to develop it into a feature. We have a small portion of funding in place already but need your help to get over the line and bring this crazy to comedy to life, and would be hugely grateful if you bought one ticket - or as many as you like - and be in with the chance of winning one of our amazing prizes.
Who We Are:
Producer, Claudia Kaye is a creative producer that has been working in the industry for 6 years. Claudia has worked across a vast range of productions such as TV adverts, live broadcasts, branded documentaries, video podcasts, radio adverts and she produced her first short film last year. Claudia's career highlights have been producing adverts for Amazon, Adidas and working alongside Oprah Winfrey.
Director, Stephen Gallacher is an award winning director, his films including Harold & Mary, which won Best Film at Go Mental Festival and Best Director with Ignite Film Festival, This Is Zoe and Unexpected Item, which won best short film at five separate festivals and Best Romantic Comedy at Top Indie Film Awards. He has also been shadow Director on Quay Street's Nolly and second Unit Director on London Kills and Fifteen Love and assistant director on Fleabag, and The Split among many others.
Writer, Tom Ward-Thomas has written two short films, Sarah (winner of Best Foreign Film at the Seattle Film & Wine Festival) and Napoleon (winner & finalist at eight film festivals, including Best Thriller at Black Hat Film Festival and winner at Berlin Flash Film Festival).His play One of Those premiered at the Tristan Bates Theatre in 2017 and received 4 & 5 star reviews across the board. He has also written a number of pilots for TV comedies and a political period drama, which are currently being pitched to production companies and broadcasters.
