Aim

At Miss Macaroon we're baking a brighter future. Every penny of profit is invested in helping unemployed young people change their lives.

Who we are

Miss Macaroon is a social enterprise based in Birmingham that specialises in making high-quality, handcrafted macaroons while delivering significant social impact. We have supported over 340 young people to gain skills, confidence, and the financial independence that comes with meaningful employment. In the context of a deepening cost of living crisis and rising mental health need, our mission has never been more urgent.

For young people experiencing unemployment, financial insecurity is not just a practical problem. It affects mental health, housing stability, relationships, and the ability to plan for the future. At Miss Macaroon, we address financial wellbeing at its root: by helping people get into and sustain work, we give them real control over their financial lives.

Our mission

Since 2011, Miss Macaroon has been dedicated to transforming the lives of young people with multiple and complex needs. Through our Macaroons that Make A Difference (MacsMAD) training course, alongside ongoing employment and mental health support, we empower individuals from disadvantaged communities to build essential skills, overcome barriers, and secure meaningful, sustainable employment.

A job is the most powerful route to financial security. But for our participants, many of whom have never experienced stable income and may be managing debt, benefit transitions, or the financial pressures of leaving care or the criminal justice system, getting into work is only part of the journey. We support participants to understand their finances as their confidence and employment situation improves, helping them feel genuinely in control of their money and their future for the first time.

Our Founder Rosie

I created Miss Macaroon because I wanted to build a social enterprise that combined my passion for premium quality food, born from my training as a high-end pastry chef at University College Birmingham and my time at Michelin-starred restaurant Purnell's, with real opportunities for young people. I wanted to help them build not just skills and confidence, but financial stability and independence: the foundation of a life they choose, not one defined by crisis.

Help Us Expand and Innovate to Transform More Lives!

Your support is crucial for us to take the next step in our mission. Here is how your contribution will make a difference:

Reinvest in Our Community
Revenue generated from our macaroon sales is reinvested entirely into MacsMAD, our flagship training programme. MacsMAD supports young people aged 18-35 from deprived areas of Greater Birmingham and the Black Country, including those with mental health challenges, disabilities, neurodiversity, lone parents, ex-offenders, care leavers, those at risk of homelessness, and individuals from Black, Asian, or minority ethnic backgrounds. For many, moving into employment through MacsMAD represents the first time they have had a regular income and with it, the ability to budget, save, and make plans. That shift from financial anxiety to financial control is transformative.

Expand Our Impact

Your contributions will enable us to run two additional MacsMAD cohorts each year and sustain the role of our embedded counsellor, who provides group wellbeing workshops, one-on-one counselling, and psycho-education sessions. Stable mental health is inseparable from financial stability. When people feel well enough to work and to plan, they can begin to build the secure financial future they deserve.

Testimonials

Meet Zeezee

"Before the MacsMAD programme I wasn’t sure about what I wanted to in life, it was all about trying to survive. When I came to Miss Macaroon it gave me purpose, it made me want to try things that are out of my comfort zone.'

"Growing up and coming to this country I didn’t know about mental health. I thought that talking about my mental health would slow me down. I always had to shut my emotions off and carry on. Sessions with the counsellors have made me more open, if I didn’t have this support over the last couple of months while dealing with something I wouldn’t have been able to cope with it.'

"My work as a kitchen assistant makes me feel like I’m in a bubble to protect us but to go when we have our wings. If you fall down Miss Macaroon has your back and supports to help you grow even after you leave.'

"I thought I was never good enough to go to university but my MacsMAD graduation made me experience achieving something and now I’m building my portfolio to apply to a fashion course."

Zeezee's story reflects what financial security really means: not just a wage, but the confidence to invest in yourself and plan for the future.
