We want to help local people reduce their heating and electricity bills this winter by providing drying facilities at our Community Centre.

On the 8th February 2023 we'd raised £1,835 with 16 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We would love to extend our project by purchasing a washing machine for the Community Centre to set up a Community Laundrette. The nearest one is three miles away so, unless they have a car, people in Lower Green have nowhere to do there washing if their own machine breaks down. installing a washing machine at the Centre will require some adaptations to the building to provide a water supply and suitable drainage but once set up will provide a great facility for local people who can stay in the cafe while they do their washing.
We are a community led charity which runs the Beehive Support Hub based at the Lower Green Community Centre. Lower Green is a low income neighbourhood on the edge of affluent Esher in Surrey. We run a Community Cafe serving surplus supermarket produce and low cost drinks and food. We have a Community fridge and foodstore and are a distribution centre for Stripey Stork - a local charity that provides baby and children‘s clothes and equipment.
We provide practical and other relevant support for local people whether they are lonely and isolated, struggling with financial or health issues or just need a friendly face and listening ear to share problems over a cup of tea.
We are running a Warm Hub this winter to provide a welcoming place where people can come during the day to keep their heating costs to a minimum. We are providing free hot drinks and homemade soup throughout the day. Many local families live in small flats and houses with no space to dry washing naturally. The nearest laundrette is three miles away and not everyone has access to a car. We have come up with the idea of providing a Community Drying Room so people in Lower Green can save money by not having to use their tumble dryers or having to turn the heating up in order to dry their washing.
We want to purchase a number of heated and standard airers together with an energy efficient tumble drier to finish off any damp washing. We may also need to purchase a dehumidifier to help the drying process. The funding will also help towards the energy costs of running this equipment for the benefit of the community.
