Aim

Inclusive cooking classes for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities whilst improving confidence, skills and reducing isolation

I’ve lost count of the amount of times someone has told me they know someone who would love to learn to cook but… The reasons are endless, reasons ranging from “I didn't learn at school, it’s too late to even learn the basics now.” to “My dad was recently widowed, he’s never needed to cook for himself so doesn’t know where to start.” or “I don’t have enough money to cook from scratch!” Love to Bake will work with local council, community groups, care organisations and individuals to help tackle these barriers and prove that anything is possible!

As a fully qualified food technology teacher with 18 years experience teaching in schools and running community classes, I have established Love to Bake to offer classes to a wider audience. Classes and workshops will centre around the principles of enjoying a balanced diet whilst developing and nurturing skills and confidence in the kitchen. Love To Bake’s classes offer interactive learning with plenty of opportunities for a fun, hands-on experience in a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

My crowdfunding goal will enable Love to Bake to buy all equipment needed for classes, portable ovens so that classes can be held in the most unlikely of venues and allow me to create a functional store room with shelving, electric and fridge. I already have experience in delivering fun, engaging sessions whatever the age range, background and ability of the participants, my crowdfunding plan will enable me to buy the necessary equipment to allow me to reach a wider audience, bid for community grant funding and to take my business to care organisations such as nursing homes, residential care and community groups who otherwise wouldn’t consider cooking for a multitude of reasons - insurance implications, lack of equipment, lack of confidence and skills staff have.

Classes will include all ingredients, equipment and aprons for everyone taking part and everyone takes home the dish they have made. Whether organisations provide education for the young, skill building for individuals with learning difficulties, electively home educated children or rekindling functional skills for the elderly, Love to Bake will reach out and offer activities which improve the skills we all need in order to live healthy, independent lives.
