We're looking at raising the budget for our third year project, Lost Excalibur, a retelling of a Cornish folklore tale.

Hello! My name's Ben Clingan and I'm the producer and second unit Director for our third year project, Lost Excalibur. The story is a retelling of the Cornish folklore tale around the death of King Arthur and the resting place of his legendary blade Excalibur.

The film looks at the story from two lenses. One, King Arthur in his life during the 5th century as he prepares to leave for Gaul with Cador, the Duke of Cornwall, and his trusted knight Bedivere. The other from the eyes of Amy Guarden, a history student in 2021 completing an assignment on the legendary king and his role in history and myth. Both follow their own paths, but end up in the same place at the culmination of the film.

With the intention of shooting the script with half English dialect and half Cornish, the film leans heavily into Cornish culture and heritage, using key locations such as Kresen Kernow and Tintagel Castle.

More details will follow as they are confirmed, so keep an eye out here and on our social media!

Why this Story? Why now?

We've all grown up with stories. Fairytales, folklore, books and even film. It shapes our imaginations as we grow up and often become the stories we tell our own children. This story is one that should be retold as it is one about loyalty and courage in a time when so much goes wrong, and one rooted in Cornish folklore. What better story to tell against the beautiful, sweeping landscapes of Cornwall then one tied to King Arthur, Cador and the legendary Excalibur?

As for why now, with Cornwall a popular location for holidays a story such as this, which is planned to use the Cornish language for half of the film, is a chance to share the heritage of the area. For those that live here, it is a chance to see familiar locations and see a folklore story brought to life. I believe that all stories, no matter their age, can teach us something. This story is no exception, especially given recent times.
