Aim

Please support Swanage Skatepark Community Project as Lorna runs the North Dorset Village Marathon to raise vital funds!

I ran my first London Marathon in 2003 to raise money for Swanage Skatepark. Now, 20 years later, I will be taking part in the North Dorset Village Marathon on 5th May 2024, carrying a skateboard as I run.

Swanage Skatepark Community Project (SSCP) is aiming to raise £20k in community crowdfunding towards the cost of rebuilding Swanage Skatepark by 9th June to be awarded with £6k in match funding from Sport England.

Swanage Town Council removed a large portion of skate ramps in 2023 when they became unsafe, without the funds to replace them. These ramps are sorely missed, especially because they were most used by beginners to build their confidence. After resurfacing some of the skatepark area, Swanage Town Council committed £15,000 towards the cost of new equipment, however this is not enough to restore the skatepark to be the valuable community resource it once was.

Rebuilding the skatepark to ensure we have a fun and accessible facility will lead to more positive outcomes for the young people of Swanage. Wheel based sports are known for creating a better sense of wellbeing and can attract people who wouldn’t normally engage in mainstream sports. Happier and healthier young people create positive ripples that will be felt by the rest of our community too.

If you would like to know more about my race or the work of registered charity SSCP then please come along to the Skate Park Community Day on 1st June, visit swanageskateparkcommunityproject.com or email: [email protected].

Thank you for your support!
