LET’S BUILD THE EDWINA HANNAFORD SKATEPARK FOR LOOE A free-to-access wheeled sports facility for skaters, BMXers and scooter riders.
We want to build a brand-new, free, inclusive wheeled sports facility in the heart of Looe, Cornwall, designed to increase physical activity and improve wellbeing among our young people.

Developed in response to over 30 years of local demand, the skatepark has full planning permission, secured land, and has been co-designed by local young people in partnership with Maverick Skateparks. It will support skateboarding, BMX, scootering and roller skating and be accessible to a wide range of ages, abilities and backgrounds.
All we need now is the funding to build it
Be part of something exciting for Looe.
Planning application comment “…..I think this is a great idea, as there's not a lot for kids in town. A skatepark over in Millpool would give them a space to hangout and enjoy themselves, without getting under peoples' feet skating up and down Fore street….”
Our young people deserve a safe, welcoming place to skate, ride, meet friends and feel they belong. Right now, Looe has a strong skater community — but nowhere for them to go.

This skatepark will be:
Planning application comment “….I support this wholeheartedly. Young people need a focus and somewhere to go. It will support healthy lifestyles and give the skateboarders somewhere to go rather than boarding through the town….”

Looe Development Trust is a local charity established in 2002, dedicated to improving the lives and wellbeing of people living in Looe and surrounding parishes.
Four years ago, we brought together a group with Looe Town Council and Boundless trust to work together with young skaters in our community. Our project was driven by Cornwall councillor and Looe Mayor Edwina Hannaford, Together, we committed to making a skatepark in Looe a reality. This project is the result of years of community partnership, listening to young people, and careful planning.

We’re building more than a skatepark.
Looe is a coastal town facing significant socio-economic challenges, with many young people experiencing barriers to participation in traditional sport. This project directly addresses inactivity, inequality and poor mental wellbeing by providing a local, walkable, non-membership facility that removes cost and access barriers.
The skatepark will act as a community hub, encouraging regular physical activity, peer support, mentoring and positive social interaction. It will create long-term opportunities for volunteering, skills development and youth engagement, leaving a lasting legacy for the community.
This skatepark will be a catalyst for positive change.
It will be:
We want young people to feel seen, valued and part of their community.
Designed with local young skaters and by professionals at Maverick Skateparks, this space reflects what young people want and need.
Planning application comment “….I completely support this proposal for the provision of a skate park in Looe. There is a woeful lack of suitable facilities in the town for young people, and without independent transport how can they travel anywhere to partake in this kind of activity?....”

Research consistently shows that skateparks deliver powerful social and health benefits. Our skatepark will:

We aim to raise £300,000 to bring this skatepark to life and the working group are applying for every available grant. But
WE NEED YOUR HELP

With skateboarding now an Olympic sport and wheeled sports growing faster than ever, there has never been a better time to invest in a local, walkable, youth-led facility.
Your support does more than raise money — it proves that Looe believes in its young people.

Planning application comment “….As a community member, teacher and someone who grew up in Looe. I strongly support the creation of a dedicated skateboard park in Looe. Young people in the town need a safe, purpose-built space to be active, socialise, and express themselves creatively through skateboarding and other wheeled sports. At the moment, there are very limited facilities for teens, and without a suitable space, they're forced to use public areas not designed for skating - which can be unsafe for both skaters and pedestrians.
A well-designed skatepark would not only support local youth but also attract visitors, build community spirit, and promote physical and mental well-being. Looe has an opportunity here to invest in something that will have a long-lasting, positive impact on the town. Let's make it happen!....”
