Our 25-year old, wooden floor is badly worn and needs resurfacing so that our users can continue to play sports, dance and socialise safely.
We are volunteer Management Trustees who look after Longframlington Memorial Hall for our local community. It’s our job to ensure that the hall is safe, secure and well maintained so that everyone can make use of the space and take part in groups and events.
Our 25-year-old wooden sports floor is badly worn and damaged, and urgently needs resurfacing. We do not receive any regular funding for hall maintenance and so approached Sports England to see if they could help. They have generously agreed that they will donate 50% of the cost if we can raise the remaining 50% from public donations. Amazing, but we need your support.
The hall is thriving and hosts a large number of user groups including Carpet Bowls, Badminton, Toddlers (who use the hall for floor play and activities), Zumba, Yoga and Keep Fit (attended by our older and disabled residents). We also run a variety of fundraising musical events throughout the year including ceilidhs, live band nights and dances, for which a safe and sturdy floor is equally important. We are keen to offer new activities but with the flooring as it is, we are reluctant to do this at present.
If the floor continues to deteriorate, we may be forced to suspend some or all of the activities, and ultimately have to replace it entirely as usage and liquid spillages damage the bare wood.
"The badminton group love playing at the hall every week but the worn surface means a loss of grip resulting in slipping and occasional falls. We fully support the Trustees in their efforts to provide an improved and long lasting floor surface".

The renovation and resurfacing of the main hall sports floor will take 5 days.
It will be undertaken by a wood floor renovation specialist who will sand the hall floor back to bare timber and to a smooth finish. One coat of primer will then be applied followed by 3 coats of 2k commercial grade lacquer with an R9 slip resistant rating, to a specific sheen. Finally, existing court markings will be reapplied.
There are two simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a donation. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success! Even the smallest donation will help as it shows your support for this project.
2. Spread the word. Please share our project and ask the world to get behind us! Tell your friends and neighbours, and share the news on your social media pages. The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
Don't forget - if we reach our 50% target, then the Sports Council will donate their 50% and we can get going with the project.
