On the 10th August 2024 we'd raised £320 with 12 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
The festival started in 2016 to provide a fee day out in the area which celebrates our rich cultural heritage. Communities are vital in our rural corner of Scotland so the festival has become much more. It is providing an identity for the town and attracting more visitors to see what we have to offer. In keeping with being a community event, we want everybody in our local communities to be part of the festival so we raise funds to provide unique experiences through partner charities in the area for people who we would find it difficult to reach on our own. These include participatory photography for people with chronic illnesses and outdoor adventure days for young carers. We would like to work with so many other groups who do amazing work with children, adults, elderly through charities, schools and more but we can only do so much which is why we look to engage new funding sources.
The festival itself is a free fun day out for all the family and includes music, living history, battle re-enactment, traditional craft workshops, axe throwing and more. By keeping it free, we can include everybody who wants to attend so we ask those who are able to donate whatever they'd be willing to pay for a ticket so that we can keep growing our partnership working.
