Aim

Help us create a place where local parents know they can always turn for support, information and connection.

Help us create a home for families in Kingsbridge

MotherBorn started with a simple belief: that no parent should have to navigate the early days of parenthood feeling alone.

Becoming a parent is huge. It can be joyful, overwhelming, exciting, exhausting and everything in between. Sometimes you just need somewhere to go. Somewhere you can ask a question, share a worry, meet another parent who understands, or simply sit down with a cup of tea surrounded by people who get it.

That’s why MotherBorn exists.

We are The MotherBorn Collective CIC, a not-for-profit community organisation supporting families across Kingsbridge and the surrounding areas through pregnancy, birth and the early years.

As a Community Interest Company, any surplus we generate is reinvested back into our services and our community, helping us continue to provide support, resources and opportunities for local families.

The story behind MotherBorn

When we created the video linked in this crowdfunder, MotherBorn was still in the early stages of its journey.

Since then, our community has continued to grow. What started as a small idea has become a place where families return again and again for support, friendship and connection.

Over the past year, we have supported 192 families, with around 60 families accessing our services every month.

Working from a shared space available to us on a part-time basis, we have seen first-hand how much families value having somewhere local, welcoming and supportive to go.

From breastfeeding and bottle-feeding support, sling advice and babywearing help, to antenatal education, baby groups and community events, we provide a place where parents can access trusted information, build confidence and find connection.

Families have told us that MotherBorn has been:

“life changing”

“a huge support for mums in the community”

and that it has made their:

“new mum journey so much lighter and easier.”

One parent shared that before finding MotherBorn they felt:

“like I was the only person with a baby and no one to really talk to.”

Those words are exactly why we do what we do. But we've reached our max capacity in our current space - with waiting lists for classes and families asking us to increase services and availability, we really need our own dedicate space.

Our vision

We now have the opportunity to bring our vision of a local home for local families to life.

We have found a space in the heart of Kingsbridge that has the potential to become the long-term home for MotherBorn.

A welcoming, accessible space where families can find support throughout pregnancy and the early years, all under one roof.

A space where a parent can pop in for breastfeeding or bottle-feeding support, meet another family over a cup of tea, change their baby in comfort, join a group, borrow a sling, hire a breast pump, access affordable baby essentials, discover local makers and feel part of a community.

For the first time, we have the opportunity to create a space that is truly shaped around the needs of local families.

Our current shared space has allowed MotherBorn to grow and prove the need for what we offer, but having a space of our own would allow us to:

  • open our doors more often
  • support more families
  • introduce new services and activities
  • create a consistent, welcoming place families know they can turn to

While our focus today is supporting families through pregnancy and the early years, this space is the beginning of a much bigger vision. We hope it will continue to grow with our community, supporting women and families through different stages of life in the future.

What families will be able to access

A permanent home will allow us to expand the support we already provide, including:

  • Breastfeeding and bottle-feeding support - a welcoming place for parents to ask questions, get support and build confidence throughout their feeding journey, whether they are breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, combination feeding or making decisions about how to feed their baby.
  • Pregnancy and early parenthood education - sessions to help families feel informed and prepared, including antenatal breastfeeding preparation and support for the transition into parenthood.
  • Parent and baby groups - regular opportunities to meet other families, build friendships and find a sense of belonging during what can sometimes be an isolating time.
  • Sling support and babywearing advice - access to our sling library and support to help families use slings safely and comfortably.
  • Breast pump hire and family resources - helping families access useful equipment without needing to buy items they may only need for a short time.
  • Affordable, sustainable family essentials - growing our preloved maternity, baby and children’s clothing project, helping families save money while reducing waste.
  • Supporting local makers and small businesses - providing an affordable opportunity for local makers and brands creating baby and child-related products to showcase and sell their work, helping strengthen our wider family community.
  • Community events, workshops and activities - creating more opportunities for families to connect, learn and support one another.

How your support will help

We are aiming to raise £5,000 to help establish this new community space and prepare it for local families.

Your support will contribute towards the essential costs of creating a welcoming, sustainable home for MotherBorn, including:

  • preparing and equipping the space so families can access our services comfortably and safely
  • supporting the initial costs of opening and running the hub
  • providing resources for groups, support sessions and community activities
  • helping us keep our services accessible and affordable for local families
  • investing in the equipment and resources needed to support our growing community

Every donation will help us move one step closer to opening the doors of a dedicated space where local parents know they can always turn for support, information and connection.

Thank you for helping us build a local home for local families.
