Aim
To strengthen our community social action projects, especially supporting former asylum seekers.
2020 was an incredibly difficult year on many levels - but it was also a year that saw our community come together in new and wonderful ways. The disruption due to Covid-19 caused fear, anxiety, and isolation and left many of us feeling emotionally and physically drained. Many of us also faced financial challenges due to loss of income. Throughout this crisis, our community has come together and displayed an admirable ability to connect to and support each other.
Our newly formed community teams ensured that weekly services moved online, organised special virtual gatherings and held meetings to plan for the future we want to create together. We organised candlelit prayer and meditation, poetry circles, and a workshop on Active Hope – all of which strengthened connections within our community. We held space for each other and listened to each other’s fears and concerns, wiped away tears together, and often laughed and sang together too.
These new ways of connecting meant that friends and guests from near and far could join us, and several of them have become new fixtures in our community. We are grateful to everyone who has made a commitment to make Lewisham Unity a priority in their lives.
The dedication of our community has meant that we have been able to live our values out loud with important social action work, most notably supporting former asylum seekers - a project we have been deeply involved with for several years.
Looking at all we have been able to accomplish, it is obvious that Lewisham Unity is rooted in values that truly matter: love, peace, justice, community, compassion, healing. Our goal is to continue our work uninterrupted – but we need your help to do that. The challenges of the past year have affected our usual sources of income, and we are now facing a critical time financially.
If Lewisham Unity is important to you, or if you have enjoyed or appreciated our work over the past year, we invite you to make a financial contribution of whatever size you are able. To continue our work, in particular supporting our tenants, we are aiming to raise £6,000 during 2021.

Your contributions will help us to weather the storm and continue to be there for our tenants, our members, our friends and our neighbours – all of whom are part of our community.
