“The Hub is a safe, welcoming space where staff are willing to listen and bend over backwards to ensure the right support is in place” – Turning Tides client at Littlehampton Hub

Littlehampton Community Hub is a service run by Turning Tides, a community-led charity working to end homelessness in West Sussex. The hub is open Monday-Friday for any adult either at risk of homelessness or homeless. Demand is increasing from those who are physically rough sleeping and those who may still be in their homes, but who are struggling financially and at risk of losing their tenancies. Over the last three months, the hub has been accessed over 400 times. As well as people who are currently rough sleeping or sofa surfing, we are now seeing more people access the hub who are struggling financially and are at risk of losing their tenancies and homes. For example, this year, the number of people accessing the hub that live in private rented accommodation is eleven times higher than this time last year.

Staff are based at the hub, but also work with people in the community to maintain their tenancies, access services and to encourage community inclusion and engagement with local agencies. The hub is further supported by other community groups, including community wardens and MIND.

We want to extend the opening hours at Littlehampton Hub so that we can support more people for longer. In the past, the hub has unofficially extended its hours to meet the increased demand over the difficult winter months. However, this comes at a cost and permanently increasing hours is not sustainable without additional financial support. Money raised through this campaign will support the hub to open longer and be able to increase support provisions to the people experiencing homelessness in Littlehampton.
