We are Lisburn BMX Club, a dedicated BMX club with a National standard BMX facility. Our team of passionate coaches and volunteers shares a vision of using sport as a vehicle for empowerment and community connection.
For years, we’ve worked to provide opportunities for young people to enjoy and excel in sports while building friendships and life skills.
The club provides recreational, training and competitive opportunities for riders of all ages.
Why are we crowdfunding?
The rising cost of living has made it difficult for people to access extracurricular activities, and we want to help partially remove those barriers by offering equipment, and subsidised sessions for members and new members.
Lisburn BMX Club has an ailing fleet of BMX bikes and equipment that needs to be replaced so that the club can welcome new members to the facility.
We aim to replace some of the BMX bikes and helmets.
- replace 7 bikes and purchase 3 new adult bikes to engage with adults in the community
- Purchase new helmets
Without the replacement of ailing equipment, the club would not be in a position to offer stand-alone projects like this in a safe and secure manner. This equipment will last far beyond this project and have a great positive outlook for the club's future programs and initiatives.
A NEW 4-week long Intro2BMX for young people, to develop the basic skills of BMX, by focusing on improving the skills of riders.
Introduce new riders to the sport of BMX racing as Members of Lisburn BMX Club.
The Intro2BMX program is set out, so the rider progresses over the weeks ahead the basic skills of riding a bike (ie: pedalling, balance, braking & cornering)in a sequential manner
Remember the more skills riders have-the more fun they have riding their bikes!
Through these sessions, we will introduce over 40 new riders to the sport of BMX racing.
Women and girls within the sport of BMX racing are significantly under-represented, we aim to run females-only coaching sessions to encourage more females into the club as members.
Rider and Volunteer Development:
We will host subsidised development sessions for members with an advanced BMX coach Kelvin Batey, to develop riders' skills and nutritional awareness. Fostering the mindset of a healthy mind healthy body.
Upskilling Lisburn BMX club coaches and current volunteers as well as, introducing new volunteers to the club. This will benefit all the users of the facility, not just members. These will include.
- REC level 2 outdoor first aid
- Disability in sport Autism in sport training
- Safeguarding training for active & new volunteers
New and Additional Initiatives: The project is refreshed for 2025, Offering a new outlook for the club fostering grassroots development, targeting unrepresented groups as well as engaging new volunteers and upskilling current volunteers.
Targeting Under-represented Groups: This programme is designed for young people & women and girls, one of Sport NI's target groups. Several participants will also be from minority ethnic backgrounds and females. It addresses accessibility by creating structured opportunities within Lisburn BMX Club, thus aligning to engage under-represented populations.
Building Resilience in the Sporting Sector: By introducing participants to wellness and exercise-based activities as members of Lisburn BMX Club the programme fosters lifelong habits and encourages continued engagement, echoing Sport NI’s focus on building resilience and adapting to engage new audiences.
Increasing Membership and Participation: The programme’s activities aim to increase membership within the club which aligns with Sport NI’s goal to grow membership and participation within the sporting sector.
Community Connection & Impact

• Promoting physical and mental well-being through regular exercise.
• Strengthening community ties and developing local leaders through volunteer training.
• Development training days and camps to help riders develop
• Contribute to the costs of subsidised training sessions and new equipment purchases, to be used well beyond 2025
• Social Integration, Provide opportunities to the local community to use sports and physical activity to improve social integration
• To give opportunities to access specialist skills, training and equipment
• To provide a continued pathway to participate in sport after project funding
