We are raising money to cover the cost of hosting the annual memorial service at the National Arboretum Staffordshire on the Wednesday 2nd October 2024 to commemorate the Lisbon Maru Incident.
Whilst entry to the National Arboretum in Staffordshire is free, there is a cost to hosting a special commemoration service which is part of the event package of the Arboretum.
In order to keep the costs to a absolute minimum, we will only be providing the service itself with seating, transfer buggies etc. There will be NO refreshments provided but you are more than welcome to either bring your own refreshments or purchase meals at the well stocked cafe on site.
We are hoping that those who will attend this gathering would be kind enough to offer a voluntary donation, the amount is at your discretion and can be donated anonymously if desired.
The service this year will be led by Pastor Jean Clements who is a direct relative of a POW on board the Lisbon Maru, and will include poetry from survivors and include other relatives, making this service a personal tribute to all those affected by the tragedy.
We sincerely hope that you will join us for the 82nd Anniversary service.
Any excess monies donated will be used in future projects keeping the memory of the incident and those on board alive.
