We aim to provide a warm space weekly open to everyone to enjoy, hot soup, free wifi and a friendly atmosphere

by Heather Wilson in Dunfermline, Fife, United Kingdom

Who are we?

We are followers of Jesus Christ; a welcoming community of people. We seek to encourage one another to reach our potential in God and to live and work in our local community to creatively share his message of hope for all. As an active part of our local community, we seek to help meet local needs including poverty, loneliness, refugees.

Community impact

We will be opening our building at several times each month during the winter to provide an opportunity for people to meet in a warm place, have access to clothing and winter coats which we will distribute free of charge to those who need them and company for those who are lonely. If successful, this grant will be for our weekly warm space community cafe. This will be held on Mondays (weekly): 11.30 am - 2 pm - we will provide free soup, bread, cakes, fruit and hot drinks, free wi-fi and the chance for people to meet and chat with others in a warm place and as we mentioned to have access to clothing and winter coats which we will distribute free of charge. This will begin on Monday 7th November. We have been working with Fife Council staff and other organisations to be able to signpost people to appropriate support services with examples being specialist benefits advisors, foodbank etc and we will have these details available during the event along with emergency food support.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Due to the COVID pandemnic we have seen an increase in social isolation within our community. Now with the cost of living crisis we are seeing a significant increase in requests for food and other basic supplies such as clothes and warm coats. We see within the wider Dunfermline community people who are going without heating and meals due to lack of money. As a church we were before the COVID pandemic seeking to respond to social isolation with a cafe once per week, but this had to close when Covid restrictions were brought into place. We know this works in our community area and are now intending to provide a warm space and hot bowl of soup to anyone who wishes to turn up. We will also provide free wifi. We are funding to enable us to meet our ever increasing fuel costs.
