We are raising £10,000 for Phase One of the Lindale Community Trust Project to convert Lindale Church into a vibrant Local Community Asset.
Lindale Church near Grange over Sands is a redundant Church. It's lovely, but has a leaky roof, some problems with its tower and needs to be loved again. And Lindale Community care about it, and we have a plan!
The local community wish to convert it into a vibrant community facility, to be used by local residents, youth groups and local businesses. We believe a community centre in this wonderful sized building will be able to offer fresh leisure activities to locals.
We would love to see sports classes (perhaps Badminton using that high ceiling, and maybe even a climbing wall). Things you can't already do here in Lindale, offering new opportunities to the younger community of Lindale. For example, a business offering 'aerial hoop classes' an exciting experience using high hoops is very keen to join us. Fancy Badminton?

Or maybe learning about aerial hoops, both relaxing and stretching!

The refurbished venue will be just GREAT for your birthday party, your wedding reception or for your local business to have a team building day with modern catering facilities on hand. It will be a light airy space, with cozy corners for smaller meetings, or wellbeing classes.
The high quality Wilkinson Organ stays with the building, so we have a ready made facility for musical concerts and cultural evenings.
It will also be enjoyed by visitors to the Lake District National Park World Heritage Site who will visit to learn more about 'Iron Mad' John Wilkinson, the man behind the Iron Bridge in Shropshire, and many other Iron related inventions, who is buried beneath our Church, arguably Lindale's most famous connection. We have had several positive meetings about the project, have lots of local interest and have set up a Trust to take things forward.

We are currently fundraising for Phase 1 of our project to convert the Church. This Phase will conduct important surveys to understand the condition of the building and the scope of repairs, and then create a detailed design concept with our architect. We must get this work done before winter gives the building further setbacks.
The surveys will allow us to negotiate urgent repairs with the Carlisle Diocese. The design concept and associated images will allow us to share our ideas for a beautiful community facility, and inform our future fundraising.
Phase 1 will help us launch the next major steps of the project, when we will be doing the real fundraising! In Phase 2, we will be making major bids to Heritage Lottery and other funders, and have lined up some fundraising expertise to support us.
It is vital we conduct this work urgently to allow us to sign our lease and rescue the church. Soon it could be too late and that would be a tragedy! Quotes are in, surveyors and architects are on standby. We just need this cash. We have obtained £3,000 of funding to help us, but we must raise more quickly, before winter comes and does more damage.
We would love all interested parties to make a contribution to this phase of the project. Fundraising will be ongoing throughout the major project, and there will be further crowdfunding stages at a later stage. But a little bit from everyone at this point would be enormously helpful.
Covid 19 has of course, impacted our opportunities to fundraise through social events at the moment. Crowd funding has therefore never been so vital as it is now. Thank you for your support
