Help us build a Climbing Wall that meets every child's needs.
At Barnstondale, something magical happens every day. Children arrive feel excitement, others are nervous about being away from home, and many carrying challenges that most of us never see. By the time they leave, they’ve discovered courage, built friendships, and found a little more belief in themselves.
Barnstondale is the only inclusive outdoor activity and residential centre in Merseyside, which means all children are included, regardless of their ability or background. Every year, on average 6,000 young people come here to learn, grow, and play. A quarter live with disabilities, and more than half come from disadvantaged backgrounds. For many, Barnstondale is the first time they’ve had the chance to experience nature, sleep away from home, or feel fully included.

One of the most loved and transformative experiences at Barnstondale is our climbing wall. It’s where children conquer fears, feel proud of themselves, and shout with joy to see how high they’ve climbed. But our faithful wall has served its time, and it can no longer meet the needs of the children we serve today.
A New Wall, A Bigger Dream
This December we want to build a new, fully inclusive climbing wall, a wall where every child, whatever their ability, can take part, feel challenged and accomplish the unimaginable.
Our dream wall will:
🎯 Include hoist systems, adaptive equipment, and specially designed routes so children with complex disabilities can join in.
🎯 Double our climbing capacity so more children spend less time waiting and more time climbing.
🎯 Create unforgettable moments of achievement, teamwork, and resilience.
🎯 Create lasting memories that children and their friends will carry forever.

This isn’t about a structure, it’s about our young visitors. It’s about giving them the chance to reach new heights, to discover confidence, and to experience the joy of accomplishment alongside their friends. It’s about children, many of whom have never left their estate or stayed away from home before, feeling like superheroes. It’s about children with disabilities finding freedom and independence. Most of all, it’s about belonging, opportunity, and the life-changing pride of doing something they never thought possible.
How You Can Help
We’re launching this Crowdfunder with a very special opportunity:
💚 If we raise £7,500 from 25+ donors, Sport England will match our donations, helping us reach £15,000.
💚 We’re thrilled that the Johnson Foundation has also pledged to match what we raise again, up to £10,000, which could help us reach our £30,000 target for a much-needed replacement.
💚 To unlock this funding, we need a minimum of 25 donors to make a contribution.
All it takes is your support to donate or creativity to raise whatever you can give, which will grow threefold, creating moments of confidence, joy, and independence for local children. Your support also protects our bursary scheme, which helps part fund places for disadvantaged children.
Join us. Give, fundraise, or partner with us and help children reach new heights.
More Than a Wall
This project supports so much more than climbing:
🌱 Environment & Conservation – Children spend time in nature, learn to respect it, and carry those lessons into adulthood.
💚 Health & Wellbeing – Climbing builds physical strength, confidence, and resilience, while helping children feel included and valued.
🤝 Relief of Poverty – Over half the children we welcome face financial hardship. Your support protects bursary places, so no child is excluded.
What Others Say
Parents tell us, “My children clearly felt accepted and valued, which is sadly lacking in everyday situations.”
Stick ‘n’ Step, who’ve brought children here for over 12 years, say, “Each time we leave, the first thing they ask is if they can come back. Seeing our children having fun while pushing their boundaries produces real wow moments for us all.”
And Oli, one of our young climbers, said it best:
“Climbing without my wheelchair felt like flying. I felt like a superhero.”
Every child deserves that feeling. Together, we can make it happen.
Donate today—help us climb higher, for every child.
