Lily’s Social Kitchen - Coffee Machine

Aim

To purchase a new coffee machine for our community cafe

We are a not for profit community cafe in Canterbury with a social mission to support employment for vulnerable people, tackle obesity and reduce social isolation. 

Many people face barriers to employment through having a disability such as autism, being homeless or suffering from a mental health condition. 

We opened our cafe to provide a safe place for people to have employment and prove the skills and commitment of these groups. 

Our photo shows our pay it forward scheme launched in December 2017 in which customers can purchase a voucher for a hot drink or sandwich.  Vouchers are handed out to rough sleepers and they can redeem in the cafe or we have a volunteer who takes items out in the city.  This has been successful and to maintain this we need to maintain customers coming in the store and participating in the scheme  

We are in a city with a high level of coffee shops and restaurants and to be able to be self sustaining project we need to meet the same levels as our competitors to attract visitors to the city to our cafe. A recent Facebook poll on our page showed that having a cappuccino/latte type coffee is important to 49% of our followers. 

Our coffee machine is dated and is challenging to use for the people we are employing.  

So we are crowdfunding for a new machine, with programmable options which will be easier to use. 

This will enable us to continue serve great coffee to locals and visitors and help us sustain ourselves and reduce the need for fundraising and grant applications
