Celebrate 100 years of Lightoaks Park—help build a wheelchair-accessible labyrinth to grow well-being, community, and mindfulness.
The Lightoaks Labyrinth.
We are the Friends of Lightoaks Park—a passionate group of local volunteers who care deeply about our community green space in Salford. For years, we've worked to make the park a more welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant place for everyone. As the park celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, we want to mark this milestone with a lasting, meaningful addition: a wheelchair-accessible labyrinth. This won’t be just a path—it will be a special space for mindfulness, reflection, and gentle walking, designed for people of all ages and abilities.
The idea for the labyrinth came from conversations with local residents about how we could promote mental well-being, strengthen community ties, and create a space that encourages both quiet contemplation and shared experience. Labyrinths, unlike mazes, are simple, meditative pathways with no wrong turns—designed to calm the mind and open the heart. Ours will integrate with the park’s landscape to enhance biodiversity and support our efforts to maintain its Green Flag status.
With the support of Salford City Council, and our dedicated volunteers, we’re now asking for your help to turn this vision into reality. The money raised will go toward materials, expert guidance on accessible design, and community-led construction efforts. Every contribution—no matter how small—will help us build something truly special for future generations to enjoy. Join us in creating a peaceful legacy at the heart of Lightoaks Park.
