Light up our community: upgrading our floodlights so we can play longer, be safer and encourage more sport together
Our rural community Club was formed in 1938, and is located within the Clogher Valley area of County Tyrone.
We are the current Junior Tyrone and Ulster football champions 2025.
The club provides Gaelic Games coaching as well as overall health, educational and social support to the Clogher community and surrounding rural communities. Our Club has 270 members. Of which youth is 140+. Our facility is also vitally important for local rural groups such as our local primary School here in Clogher, the Playgroup, Community association and many other sports Clubs such as St Macartan Ladies GFC.
We have 2 pitches, a shared community gym, walking tack used by the community and a Clubhouse including a hall used by many community groups throughout the year.
Our facilities are located just off the Main Street and main thoroughfare from Belfast to Enniskillen. The Club organises, promotes and competes in Gaelic Games and other sporting activities for all, regardless of age, gender, background or ability within the Clogher Valley and outlying rural areas.
We also has a shared community gym facility and walking track, which is used by all.

We are crowdfunding to replace our ageing floodlights on our training pitch, which are now unreliable, inefficient, and costly to maintain. Over the past year, lighting failures have caused the cancellation or early finish of more than 25 training sessions and several youth matches. The current 1000W metal halide system is over 20 years old, with uneven coverage and frequent bulb failures that impact both safety and participation.
A full LED upgrade, will replace these outdated fittings with 26 new 600W Powertron LED floodlights. This system will deliver over 135 lux illumination with uniformity exceeding GAA training standards and zero upward light spill. The new lights will reduce our energy use by 45.45%, cutting annual running costs from £7,818.57 to £4,099.68, saving £3,718.89 per year and reducing our carbon footprint by 5.3 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
This project directly meets the Olympic Legacy Fund aims by improving community sports infrastructure, enabling more people to be active, and ensuring long-term sustainability.
The upgrade will ensure consistent, safe lighting for all evening activities and greatly enhance the range of programmes delivered at our grounds all round year.
Our Club and the training pitch is also a base for St Macartan’s Ladies GFC, whose players currently face curtailed training sessions and fixture disruptions due to poor lighting. Reliable LED floodlights will allow full evening schedules for underage girls, minor, and senior ladies’ teams, supporting the continued growth of female participation in Gaelic Games.
It will also benefit our underage teams and 150+ youth members, who we have training most evenings per week, and our Gaelic for Mothers & Others and social football initiatives, which encourage adults back into sport for fitness and wellbeing. Improved lighting will allow us to host winter coaching programmes, cross-community events, and youth development camps, as well as support local schools and rural groups who use our grounds for physical activity sessions.
This enhanced capacity will help us expand participation across age, gender, and ability, aligning directly with the Olympic Legacy Fund’s goals of increasing access, improving infrastructure, and promoting lifelong involvement in sport and community wellbeing.
We are crowdfunding because we want our members and local community across Clogher to help bring this project to life. Every contribution demonstrates our wider community commitment and helps unlock match funding through the Olympic Legacy Fund- ensuring our facilities remain a vibrant, energy-efficient hub for the Clogher Valley community for years to come. As a CASC we can also claim gift aid on all eligable donations!

Olympic Legacy Fund
This project strongly aligns with the Olympic Legacy Fund’s objectives of increasing participation, improving community sports facilities, and promoting sustainability. By upgrading to modern LED floodlighting, we will create a safe, energy-efficient, and inclusive environment that enables more people to take part in sport year-round. Reliable lighting will allow us to extend evening access for all our teams, underage players, and social participation programmes such as Gaelic for Mothers & Others. It will also support cross-community and wellbeing initiatives that encourage wider engagement across age, gender, and ability.
The project delivers measurable sustainability benefits through a 45% reduction in energy use and an annual carbon saving of 5.3 tonnes, ensuring lower operating costs and a reduced environmental impact. By investing in infrastructure that benefits both sport and the wider community, this project directly supports the Fund’s vision of building stronger, more active, and more sustainable communities.

We are aiming to raise £24,215.88. All funds raised will be used to replace our outdated 1000W metal halide floodlights on our training pitch, with 26 new 600W Skyline Powertron LED floodlights and associated fittings. The full installation cost, including deep shields, cabling, powered access hire, and labour is £24,215.88
Crowdfunded donations will directly fund the purchase and installation of the new lighting system, as well as site preparation, electrical safety testing, and removal of the existing fittings. The new system will deliver a uniform light level exceeding GAA standards, ensuring safe, consistent conditions for training and matches.
Any additional funding secured through the Olympic Legacy Fund will help complete final infrastructure works and guarantee compliance with energy and safety standards. The project will reduce annual energy use by 45% and cut carbon emissions by over 5 tonnes per year.

This project builds on the success of our previous Crowdfunder campaign, which helped us enhance the programmes at our facilities and demonstrated the strong community support behind our club. That campaign showed how deeply valued our grounds are as a shared community space, with local residents, businesses, and members coming together to donate funds for a programme and community resource that benefits everyone. The response confirmed that our club is more than a GAA Club facility- it is a central sporting hub for activity, connection, and wellbeing across rural Clogher.
The floodlight upgrade represents the next step in that journey. It will allow us to make full use of our facilities throughout the year, particularly during darker months, and support the continued growth of our underage teams, Gaelic for Mothers & Others, and social fitness groups. Beyond sport, the improved lighting will also benefit community events, health and wellbeing initiatives, and youth engagement programmes run in partnership with local schools and rural organisations.
This project will strengthen our capacity to deliver inclusive, accessible, and sustainable opportunities for all sections of the community. By investing in modern, efficient lighting, we are ensuring that the club continues to be a safe, welcoming space where people can stay active, connect with others, and build community pride. Just as our previous crowdfunder proved, local support and collaboration remain at the heart of everything we do—and this project will carry that legacy forward.
