Aim

Upgrade to LED floodlighting which are environmentally friendly and will reduce our carbon footprint, save energy costs and be more focussed

Who are we?

Camvale Tennis Club was originally established in 1947 and is situated about 12 miles south of Bath and Bristol in the village of Paulton. We have two macadam tennis courts, a Kidszone, plus a hitting wall and a small clubhouse. The Club prides itself on being community focussed providing tennis opportunities to anyone irrespective of age or ability. Consequently, we ensure our fees are kept low to make it affordable to many.

We are an LTA Registered Club and all of our coaches are LTA Accredited.

Throughout the year we have weekly club social tennis sessions, organise regular competitions and several social events, like skittles and dinners.

There are coaching programmes for both adults and young people (aged from 4 upwards) and we are keen to introduce both cardio sessions and walking tennis as additional ways of community engagement in the future.

We continue to strive to maintain the courts and facilities as the Club is a great community asset for the wellbeing of young and the not so young.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We need to invest in replacing our old halogen floodlights with environmentally friendly LED lighting.

Tennis is one of the few sporting activities in the local area which is played all year round. The benefits to an individual's health and wellbeing are well documented but tennis can also help to improve mental health through exercising in fresh air and social interaction in a safe and secure environment.

We would like to continue to provide playing opportunities in the evenings and therefore the provision of floodlighting is essential, especially in the winter months.

Sport England has recognised the value of our project and have awarded the Club a grant of £6,000 on the condition that we raise a further £6,000 that we need to complete the project ourselves.

How we’ll spend the money raised

With the funds raised we will be able to:

  • replace the existing floodlights with LED HiLux Match Luminaries to achieve the LTA's club standard requirements (400 lux, maintained at 0.7 uniformity)
  • fit four sided deflectors to minimise light spill and source intensity
  • modify the existing light distribution board
  • test to standard BS7671
  • dispose of the old bulbs and associated fitting in an environmentally manner.

We would use an NICEIC contractor who is a SAPCA registered member and would work to the BS7671 standard.

The overall project cost is £22,000

Community impact

Camvale Tennis Club has been part of Paulton and the surrounding villages for 78 years and its benefit to the community is even more essential in the coming years.

With a large increase in housing development, both recently and planned in the coming years, the demand for our facilities will inevitably grow and the provision of a first class tennis facility will be even more important.

The more we can do to encourage people of all ages and abilities, especially children, to take part in a healthy recreational sport where everyone can have safe social interactions is part of our objective to foster a sense of belonging and community.

Replacing our floodlights will help achieve our community objectives. Your donation will help us develop a brighter future.
