Aim
We want to serve more meals, drinks and cakes to ensure our community cafe offers everyone a warm welcome.
Who are we?
Lighthouse Cafe is one of the projects run by Lighthouse Charity Trust. We have been serving very reasonably priced meals to the community for many years. Last year we also started providing free meals for individuals and families struggling with the cost of living which we call Family Food Fridays.
Community impact
The Lighthouse Charity Trust was set up to offer services to enhance the wellbeing of individuals and improve community cohesion on behalf of Lighthouse Community Church, Sheringham. These services are not intended to be proselytising. For a number of years, we have been providing facilities for parents and toddlers, children and young people, and the elderly. More recently we have been providing free meals for individuals and families facing financial difficulties.
Our Community Cafe has been running for several years and is well known in the town. The community meal we offer each Thursday is almost always fully booked with 20 people attending. It costs £5 per person for a two course meal and a drink.
The Family Food Fridays attracts between 35 and 55 people, and meets once a fortnight. As well as a free meal we provide games and activities. The youngest children get to play in our soft play area.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We want to increase our capacity to serve more meals, drinks and cakes to our community through the Lighthouse Cafe and our Family Food Fridays. This means buying more food and equipment for the additional sessions, and paying the increased energy costs.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We will spend the money buying food, more play and games equipment, and helping to cover our increased energy costs. With the extra funds we can deliver twice as many meals as we do currently.
We have two magnificent teams of volunteers who serve at the Community Meals and at Family Food Fridays. They have have helped make both projects so successful that we now want to double our capacity to meet the need we are encountering.
