Aim

Our current artificial nets are falling apart. Help us build a safe, modern 3-lane facility for players of today, and players of tomorrow.

We all know how much the amount of cricket played at Lightcliffe has grown in recent years – and how much our current nets are now holding us back.

With nearly 400 members, around 200 junior players and cricket taking place across four senior and eleven junior teams, plus the growth of our new girls-only section, the demand for training space has never been greater.

On busy evenings, the existing nets are stretched beyond what they were ever designed to cope with, making it increasingly difficult to give every player the quality and quantity of practice they need.

For those of us who spend our summers at Till Carr Lane, none of this will come as a surprise. We have a ground and a club of which we are rightly proud, but the nets have become the obvious weak point.

So now it is time to do something about it.

As you know, we want to replace the existing facility with a new ECB-approved, three-lane enclosed practice facility which will give our players a modern, safe and high-quality environment in which to train.

It will allow more teams and more players to practise at the same time, improve the quality of our coaching and give us facilities that match the ambition and progress of the rest of the club.

It is particularly important for the continued growth of our junior section.

We want Lightcliffe to remain a place where children can start cricket at five years old and have a pathway right through junior and senior cricket. We also want to continue developing opportunities for girls, with improved facilities giving us greater capacity to grow girls-only cricket at the club.

The good news is that much of the hard work has already been done. Planning permission has been secured. The project has been designed. We know what we need to build. We're putting some of the money raised from Lashings and the Priestley Cup Final towards it. But there's still a gap - so we need you.

The overall project is expected to cost nearly £70,000, covering the installation of the three-lane system together with the necessary groundworks and removal of the existing facility.

This is about giving the hundreds of people who already use Lightcliffe – and those who will come after us, plus the community more widely – the facilities they need.

We have talked about new nets for long enough.

The plans are there. The permission is there. The need is certainly there.

Now, let's get them built.
