Help Morpeth Hockey Club go LED! Brighter, safer, greener floodlights for players & community. Donate to light up our pitch!
We’re a proud and welcoming hockey club based in Morpeth, Northumberland — just outside Newcastle. Founded back in 1922, we’ve grown into a lively community of players, with 130 senior members and 150+ juniors. We’re part of the wider Morpeth Cricket, Hockey and Tennis Club, at our Longhirst Hall sports facility.
We run three men’s and three women’s teams, all competing in the Yorkshire and North East Hockey Leagues. Our junior section is going from strength to strength - our under-14 girls even made it to the England Hockey national club finals this year!
We welcome players of all ages and abilities, and we’re proud of the friendly, inclusive atmosphere that runs through everything we do.
This season, we’ve Launched off our 5-year plan to upgrade and future-proof our facilities. Phase one is all about getting the basics and essentials right: we’re tackling some much-needed repairs to the pitch and replacing our outdated floodlights.
Right now, we’re using old metal halide lights; they’re inefficient, expensive to maintain, and the bulbs are prone to failiure. Aw you can see in the picture below, the illumination across the pitch is uneven and dim in certain areas.

The total project cost to replace our lights with brighter more efficient LED units is £28,000. The club have already raised some money towards it and Sport England have agreed to provide £7,500 match funding if our campaign can raise a similar amount of money. BUT to get us there, we need your help!
“We’re proud of our inclusive, competitive club - but we need your help to keep the facilities playable and future-ready. LED floodlights aren’t just a technical upgrade they’ll provide a welcome boost to our club in many ways and are a commitment to our players, our sustainability aims, and our community.”

We aim to install new LED lights as soon as we meet our fundraising target. Early donations will help us secure contractor installation date and match funding.
