Replacing old, inefficient lighting with LEDs, using the savings for life-enhancing community and education work.
Jarrow Hall is a historic and environmental oasis in the heart of Tyneside, cherished by many people across the local community and worldwide. By helping us transform this very special place with energy-efficient LED technology, you'll help us make huge annual savings which can be put to better use, helping us light up the lives of thousands of schoolchildren and visitors.
The much-loved site was saved by local charity Groundwork STAN after they stepped in to completely renew and revive the site following its unfortunate closure last year. Across 11-carefully-managed acres, Jarrow Hall tells the fascinating story of Bede - the Father of English History - and the incredible world of Anglo-Saxon England.
Prior to our full opening in April 2017, over £130,000 was spent on the buildings and grounds to make the rejuvenated site safe and attractive for new visitors. This included key works to the homes for the many animals who live on our farm, as well as critical building works to create classrooms for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities, and in our museum to make it suitable for new generations of visitors and over 1,700 schoolchildren who've joined us to date for live-enhancing education activities.
Despite our ongoing efforts, we are wasting thousands of pounds every year through outdated, inefficient and expensive lighting - a significant percentage of which we inherited broken beyond repair. Your votes and support will enable us to replace all of our museum lighting to improve the experience for local schoolchildren and all of the visitors to our unique site, while savings of over £5000 annually will be used across our community and education work, all the while helping to make us more sustainable and secure our future for years to come.
