The Rotary Club of Godalming has launched a vital fundraising campaign to purchase 1,000 solar lights for families of students attending Jolaurabi School, a charity-run school (www.educatethekids.com) in Bamburi, Mombasa, Kenya.
These children live without access to electricity, limiting their ability to study after dark and will allow them to get un/dressed in the dark. Having light will increase safety in their homes.
By replacing the current harmful and expensive kerosene lamps with clean, renewable solar lighting, we aim to empower students with the opportunity to thrive academically and support healthier living environments.
One of our Corporate Members Chris Scott annually visits the School with other volunteers taking out and fitting 900+ pairs of worn school shoes from the UK. He has seen first hand how the families of the children from this school live and the help that they need.
Working in collaboration with local partners at the school, the club will ensure that all funds raised directly support the purchase and distribution of solar lights to those who need them most.
Every light delivered brings not only brightness to a home but also hope for a better future. Truly, lighting up a child's life.
