Light Bearers

Aim

We're raising money for a permanent lighting rig at Cobberton Gardens for all to benefit from and use; may we all be Light Bearers.

Cobberton Gardens is a small parcel of woodland in the hills of Totnes. We're a short walk away from the town which makes this an idyllically situated location for the community. Our mission is to create a bustling community hub that connects us to the outdoors all year round. We offer access to theatre shows, music events, workshops, nature connection experiences, drop in evenings and more. For the last two years we have cleaned up the land, planting flora and fauna to attract wildlife. Building fire pits, levelling the ground and creating beautiful area's for public.

One of our core values at Cobberton Gardens is that it is accessible to all. We're working hard on making that happen, and up until now we have self funded everything. We see a future for Cobberton where it's usage doesn't cost the earth, and is affordable to rent out to those of all incomes.

At this moment in time as the days get darker, we have a desperate need for lights. Every time an event is put on, lights are rented and 40 hours of work is required to collect; string, hang, connect, test, disassemble and return. The time this takes raises the rental cost of the land massively and often delays the event set up. With a permanent lighting rig, more time can be spent supporting the future of all of those that wish to use the space, but also make it more accessible for all at night.

Bringing light to the site as a community for all to be the bearers of light. 

Mars (Cobberton Gardens Founder) turned 30 on the 3rd of Nov, and for her birthday will be hosting a fundraiser for a permanent lighting rig. Sadly this year the weather has been a huge washout which meant that some of the events have seen a radical loss. In order to still achieve what we set out to do this year, we're hosting our final event of the year to celebrate the bringing of light and the importance of doing this together!

There will be a free fundraiser event on the 9th of December 2023 to celebrate Mars' birthday but also to thank all the people that have donated to this cause.

We'll be hosting a huge selection of talent from the Devon area showcasing... Cabaret, Theatre, DJ set by Moor Funk, Story Telling, Ceremony, Music Jams and more.

This is a free event, all donations will be to fund the lighting rig.

Our target is £3000
Anything above £3000 will go to help the Palestinian war crisis to put together some Christmas parcels.
