Aim

The aim of my crowd funding is to help me have more capital to put on more events, because the more speakers, the more people inspired!

My name is Velma Simmons, after graduating university I went to a concert called Watch The Throne with Jay-Z and Kanye West! After studying film and television for three years, that concert changed my life and I knew I wanted to work in music but behind the scenes. I was fortunate enough to intern for amazing places such as Sony Music, Roc Nation, and Disturbing London. After landing my second internship my father had passed away from cancer, in that time my dreams had to take a pause, because I could no longer work for free to follow my dreams but instead I needed to find an entry level job, after many attempts to find that entry level job in the music industry, I kept on getting no's. I would research leading female pioneers that were in the entertainment industry such as Karen Civil, to keep me motivated by listening to her story, and to remind me your dreams are possible!

After landing my first job at Universal Music, I felt it was the perfect time to reach out to one of my initial women entrepreneur heros Karen Civil, and pitch the idea of bringing her to London, she said yes and that was the birth of L.I.F.E Talks, I saw how many young people like myself were so excited to have her in London. After Karen I was able to have Lenny 'Kodak Lens' Santiago, and Swizz Beatz on the platform!

My long term vision for L.I.F.E Talks UK is to be a whole day conference with amazing people from the US & UK, with performers, and a chance to send a young person to the states to do an internship and pay for them to be able to live out their dreams.
