Life skills training: Money Management for people with disabilities
Who we are:
The Pro-Active Community is a user-led charity and one of only very few charitable organisations in the UK, led by people with learning disabilities or autism. It aims to influence awareness and change within the health/social care sector and works for the benefit of over 200 members in Surrey in Sussex.
Why we need your support:
Many People with disabilities want to live independent lives and that includes having confidence in their relationship with money.
The Pro-Active Community would like funding to work with a financial advisor to equip them with the tools to be financially independent and to create Easy Read ‘Money Management’ guidance and support documents. Easy Read is a photo/symbols method of presenting written information with a visual graphic to make it easier to understand for people who do not read.
The financial advisor will host training days which covers the topics of:
- Budgeting
- Managing bills
- Expenditure
- Preparing for unexpected costs
- Financial support for people with disabilities.
The aim of the project, is that the Pro-Active Community and wider disabled community will feel more confident living independently and managing their finances for now and the future.
