Aim

LGBTIQ people seeking asylum have been disproportionately affected by Covid-19. Donate now to help support them during this stressful time.

African Rainbow Family (with the support of Voices4) has created this fundraiser in aid of LGBTIQ People Seeking Asylum during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The brutal killing of George Floyd at the hands of police in the US has seen people all over the world stand up to demand justice, equality and human rights for Black people.

At the same time, we have seen the disproportionate effect that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the BAME community - this includes LGBTIQ people seeking asylum, who often have underlying compromised health conditions. Some die in detention centres, others on deportation flights back to their persecutors. LGBTIQ people seeking asylum can't breathe! This is unacceptable!!!  #BlackLivesMatter! #TakeTheKnee.

During these difficult and uncertain times, it is especially imperative that LGBTIQ people seeking asylum and refuge are well supported due to their added vulnerability.

Most live in crowded accommodation receiving an income of less than £40/week - barely enough to survive on. They are also cut off from their loved ones and so are unable to maintain a state of positive mental health, which right now is imperative.

We believe that #BlackLivesMatter and these include the lives of LGBTIQ people seeking asylum.

Your generous donation will help African Rainbow Family to deliver continuous support to protect LGBTIQ people seeking asylum in the UK. We have been providing food parcels and phone credits for online social meetings, physical activities - exercises and mental wellness to about 80 of our most vulnerable members through generous grants - but we want to reach more!

To ensure vulnerable LGBTQIA people seeking asylum can adhere to self-isolation and social distancing while still having access to food, medication, daily essentials and maintaining a positive mental health during this stressful and scary time, African Rainbow Family will provide:

  • £30 weekly, in food and daily essentials;
  • £20 monthly phone credits; and
  • £100 to buy a bicycle each for 15 members to increase physical and mental wellness. Increased social distancing and reduced Covid-19 infection.

We know it's a difficult time for everyone right now so even if you can make a small donation or share this with your friends and networks, we'd really appreciate it.

Let's help our LGBTIQ community friends to put food on their table and access basic necessities! Please chip in to save a life!

This fundraiser is being run by African Rainbow Family with the support of Voices4. All donations will go directly to African Rainbow Family.
