The Society received a Lottery Grant for a temporary exhibition in an empty shop. The Society now wants to make this a permanent exhibition
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Leyland Historical Society, the Society are currently holding a free exhibition showing what they has discovered about Leyland & Farington over the last half century at 55 Hough Lane, Leyland.
The displays go back to the exhibitions that the Society used to show in the Craft Tent at the original Leyland Festival in the last twenty five years
We will also be promoting the Oral History of the workforces of Leyland & Farington and conducting interviews on the premises if required. There will be numerous talks and walks in the seven weeks that the Centre is open.
The Heritage Centre opens on Tuesday 22nd May and will be open from Tuesday to Saturday each week from 10 am until 4 pm. The Centre will be open until 7th July. On Thursdays there will be an evening opening from 6.30 pm until 9.00 pm which will include a talk at 7 pm about an aspect of Leyland's history.
As Peter Houghton, Chairman says “ We hope to attract people who are in the town centre and can learn something about Leyland’s history while they are out and about”
From the interest shown so far the Society is aiming to either extend the exhibition either at the current venue or at another similar location. We aim to use the crowdfunding to show the level of interest and commitment in the town of Leyland to make this happen.
This project successfully funded on 24th July 2018
