A cinematic documentary exploring identity, community and freedom - based off meeting locals from Lewes
Are you free? The people of Lewes seem to be. For near 400 years they have resisted government attempts on stopping their unique celebrations. Bonfire societies march through the town carrying torches, setting off bangers and presenting huge effigies portraying controversial opinions. They have resisted attempts to silence their freedom of speech and expression.
But what does it mean to be free?
Is freedom the result of independence? Does being a part of a community rob you of your individual voice. Does picking a side put you in a box? Are you apart of a community because it confirms your biases? Do you have to pick between one or the other? Is identity fixed?
We are all searching for a way to live life by our own terms. With your help we will be able to provide an insight into how we view ourselves and the people around us. We are hoping its going to be heart-warming and feelgood – but what if it isn’t?
