Aim

Help me take my show Fat, Femme & Crippled to this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Where costs are high and finances are slim.

All about the show:

- In Fat, Femme and Crippled, Alex drives their mobility scooter on the intersection between disability and queer culture. Using their experience as a non-verbal queer person to educate, captivate, but most of all titillate their audiences as they demonstrate that disabled people are just as filthy and capable of making the same bad life choices as everyone else. This performance is not one to miss. Expect to leave feeling both delighted and disgusted all at once.

- This will be done during a 6 day run of the show at this years fringe from the 10th-15th August at Bar 50.

Why am I so determined to bring my story to Edinburgh Fringe?:

- Being both non-verbal and physically impaired, I face a lot of discrimination from societies assumptions on my mental capacity, which has impacted me medically, socially, and ethically over the years.

- I want to bring equality to disabled peoples experiences within both queer spaces and society as a whole. The only way to normalize and encourage these changes to be made in our community, is to give all those elephants in the room a martini so we can get trollied together and create a safe environment to ask questions and learn from one another.

- Disabled people should not be a stereotype of being romanticized or too vulnerable. I give a very clear message for the disabled queer community. Take the stigma away from disability in queer culture, and work towards an attitude where people no longer feel they have to choose between being queer or being disabled.

- This will be the first time I will have enough stage time to tell a fuller version of my story of how comedy saved my life, and gave me a voice thats actually heard. Because I firmly believe people are more open to change through laughter, rather that lecture.

- Disabled queer people have night lives, we make valid contributions to the queer rights movement. I believe comedy can give such a marginalised part of the community a platform, a voice, and equality, and I hope my story can do that. Be both, celebrate both. Disabled does not mean deficient; I am proving that we are just as capable of making bad life choices as everyone else.

- That is what I know my show will help achieve and I can’t wait to deliver it at this year’s Fringe Festival. I fully intend to use this platform to launch my comedy career as far as possible and show this platform is not impossible to gain for people like me. I want to use the visibility and reviews the Fringe will give me to gain agency representation and the chance for regular work, both around the country and worldwide.

What will your donations go towards?

- As many know, living costs for disabled people whilst away from home are often extortionate. With accessible transport and accomodation often costing more. Any funds raised will be used for:

- The cost of return travel for me to get from my home in Cornwall, all the way to London. Where I will then get the train with my accessibility aide to Edinburgh for the 8 days I will be there.

- The living costs such as meals, accomodation, and public transport including accessible taxi's in order to get around the city for the multiple venues I will be performing in.

- The nessecary advertising fees in order to make sure my show reaches as wide an audience as possible to fill those seats and attract agent representation.

- As well as doing this just for me. I am also wanting to use a portion of any funds raised to help my friend and accessibility aide with her expenses during our time there, as money is tight and we are both wary about not having enough to live on.
