We can't wait to put Houghton's Rectory Park Illuminations where they belong! Right back at the heart of Houghton Feast 2021 and beyond.
30 years ago Rectory Park was a beautiful, magical place for families to walk through during Houghton Feast. Winnie the Witch was lit up in a tree and there was a beautiful peacock and other fondly remembered figures (what was your favourite)
Now sadly it is dark and uninviting. BUT by working together
Houghton Le Spring Residents Group
The Old Rectory (ACB)
Houghton Heritage Society
and with YOUR help we
Plan to Light Up Rectory Park again and bring back that magic for our bairns and future generations
We plan to involve Schools/children/families/community.
to bring back to life our Rectory Park at Houghton Feast
We really do need YOUR help and support to achieve our aim.
We will start in summer 2021 with the "Big Lunch event" in the Rectory Park in June. We plan events for local schools/families and community to have input in the lights. By Houghton Feast next year we will have an amazing light trail through the park. We'll keep it lit after Houghton Feast and encourage people to enjoy a walk through the park, following the trail and designing even more fun features for 2022 and beyond
This project is by the people of Houghton for the people of Houghton
Rectory Park was gifted to the community of Houghton-le-Spring in 1949.
The Illuminations will be held in trust for the community by The Houghton Rectory (Acumen Community Building) for Houghtons future generations.
Covid has made us realise just how precious our green spaces are! Let's protect nurture and celebrate our wonderful Rectory Park.
